Look at how other players deal with the character and make copying what they're doing your immediate goal, more so if it's an obvious problem that will hopefully get patched away eventually. That said, learning from your losses is important but so is being able to switch gears and say "nah fuck this GG next game"

Reminds me of a recent problem character in a lane battler (energy monster summoner?) game I play. Due to how it does damage, you basically drop it and it wipes any sort of push your opponent could've built, no matter if they dropped a big cost character or a small one, or even if you sent a swarm at it. Not only that it sticks around long enough that the one who played it can drop 2-3 more big boys to push your shit in, all while it wipes out anything you put down. Took the devs like 3+ months before they finally nerfed the fucker.
