From a holo fan perspective, the magic died in 2024. We're supposed to respect that boundary and focus on the moment, because in this case the girls can only truly be their best with the support and backing of hololive.
From a niji fan perspective, well, everything that can be said has turned into a meme. But basically their death has closed a vital containment area for male vtubers in general and female vtubers of that mindset. Now they're running around in other corpos or as indies, spreading that mind poison instead of being neatly contained.
I earnestly believe early 2024 also accelerated the death of most small corpos, with shitty managers trying to cash out, and overly hopeful girls graduating or getting themselves terminated think they can be the next big ex-corpo.
And now we're in 2025 where faith in Hololive is waning, their main competitor is in a smouldering crater, almost all small corpos are dead, and more and more vtubers are just giving up entirely. Girls have more freedom, but the industry is NOT healthy right now.

I meant to talk from a customs and behavior point of view, the industry talk and implication from that isn't the sole fault of that changing. Cheap growth for Vtubing is over. Sure, COVID supercharged the industry and rocketed #1 and #2 companies with Cover and Anycolor to the point they got included in Japan's TOPIX top stocks index. But 2024 was just hard in general besides events that happened. A lot of external stuff happened too. By and large, from what I could see, small corpos didn't die because they tried to cash out, they died because they unsustainably tried to do things and thought things would stay the same. Interest rates had a large part to play in killing a lot of them because borrowing costs rocketed up. So from a monetary standpoint, the money in the space isn't increasing by leaps and bounds and that is killing a lot of what was taken for granted in the space, not to mention what you mentioned about ulterior motives. We'll see how it fares but yeah, things are a bit on a downward trend. That doesn't mean it can recover but for now, it is what it is.
