Elden Ring has a very annoying shmup style of difficulty where all of the really hard encounters require you memorize an autistically specific sequence of inputs to not get killed in one hit and end your run. Dodging Malenia's WFD "honestly" (i.e. no frost pots or raptor of mists etc) is just the most egregious example but there are many others. Whenever Elden Ring gets hard it becomes a choice between spending the next 5 hours learning where the one singular safe zone is, or when exactly the 20 hit combo gives you an opening to swing back, through dumb trial and error, or you equip the boss's kryptonite items and basically win for free. The game is simply too fucking long for this kind of difficulty. You hear it when Nimi says stuff like "I liked the game for so long but then it just fell off." An actual shmup is like 30 minutes long if you win. Elden Ring is 100 hours long and that's if you don't get stuck on any boss for like 10 hours. Just Limgrave is the length of DeS and DS1 in their entirety. It's exhausting and wears out it's welcome super fast. And while every Souls game has had this trial and error aspect to it, it's almost never been as transparent or as annoying as in Elden Ring. In all previous instances of this, like Bed of Chaos, they apologized.

The reason you typically do so well on your first attempt at a boss is because your body enters a fight-or-flight state and it heightens your reflexes and instincts. She's sitting at a range where he will spam the stomp more and doesnt stagger the boss with her build. All her actions are also long windups so unless she gets it perfect or is patient she just gets hit. He's a hardish boss for glasscannon builds unless you know what youre doign which for her casually playign the game is a bit much.

Who's "most people?" The voices in your head? Godfrey is hard. He completely flattens any build that relies on attacks with long windups due to his nonstop area-wide AoEs and gap closers.

Nah she can do it with Aurelia. She just needs to use different spells that do damage (anythign but Rancor) and dont take 9 million years to startup which is where nearly all her deaths in ER mid and late game have been from. Her build is as you say stand in one spot and cast something rather than actually trying anything a proper mage class would do.

She probably thinks she is obligated to finish the game with the same build with how much of the playthrough she's done with it. If she would just bite the bullet and lean into sorcery more, then she would be having a better time. Since she obviously wants to play more sorcery oriented.

The grab is extremely telegraphed, and the stomp becomes trivial when you realize you can jump over the shockwave. I would not expect new players fighting him for the first time to know this, though. I got my shit rocked by Godfrey the first time I fought him.
