What era are we in now?
We're clearly not in the Golden Era anymore, what should we call this era?

Enshittification Era
Anonymous No.101611608 [Report]
Silver Age: more focused on creating short form content, VTubing as activity mainly in Japan
Golden Age: Pivot to streaming as main content, global scale
Bronze Age: The gold rush of small corporations has ended, but many of the talents are independent now. The scene is more alive than ever, with massive crossover events like VSMP

So we just ignore the very real process it describes because you think it's a "reddit word"? Come up with your own word for it then.

you don't name eras until they're long over and people can agree where rough start & end periods are. for example, we can probably assume that the selen termination was the end/start of an era but is that era still ongoing or has it ended already? aqua/ame graduation could also be seen as another epoch but we won't really be able to tell until it's all behind us and we can look at things holistically

I nominate the "Ex-Corpo" era, there's no such thing as a top indie right now it's all just ex-corpos
Anonymous No.101614368 [Report]
The Prototype Era (2007- 2015) The rise of Vocaloid, Miku becomes the first successful virtual Idol.

The Platinum Era (2016 - 2017) The rise of Kizuna Ai and the 4 Heavenly King's. Companies dipping thier toes with 1 idol to see where the market is at.

The Golden Era (2018 - 2021) The rise of Vtuber companies, mass production of virtual Idols leading to international appeal. Mainly due to the pandemic.

The Silver Age (2022 - 2024) The rise of the independent market, people learning to make a brand of thier own without the help of an agency to do so.

The Bronze Age (2025 - ?) The decline of the international market, with the oversaturation of vtubers, agencies are facing a decline in sales. Idols are leaving agencies to find success in the independent market.

The Dark age (?) There is no telling when we begin this era, yet somehow, Miku will still be relevant.

We're not really Ex-Corpo yet though, because so many of the big "indies" ultimately owe a great deal of their success to having been from a corporation in the first place.

As such, joining a Corporation is still better for an aspiring VTuber, even if the outcome isn't great. And so...

>>101606338 (OP)
It's the Burnt Gold era now: many of the big indies are just former Corpos doing basically the same thing they used to, and the ones that aren't remain basically irrelevant outside of their immediate audience. Those who remain Corpo are also clearly getting burnt out, with little in the way of innovation or passion.

Either that ends up setting off a Renaissance once the worthless suits finally get out of the way again, or we end up in the Rust Age, where everything is the same, but always clearly getting worse.

Before the final VOD was struck, I threw open a portal in time and flung Cheebs into the future where my evil is strong!
Now the fool seeks to return to the past and undo the era that is AKU!!
