You can't balance the risk without owning the IP or authority to control content and collabs. That is why vtubing has 2 polar opposites right now, Mythic with 0 group content, and Holo-Niji with full corpo ownership and all group content.
VShojo existing in the middle is a kind of miracle that required everyone to do what they should be doing without contracts to force them into it. Unfortunately as you have seen, talent freedom means that members can reject doing unity content, it also means that they can bring non-members close to boost their viewership without signing a contract.
VShojo is something that can benefit everyone if it works the way it should, but members are far too shortsighted to put their individual gains ahead of any group building. It might work for a while, but eventually there's going to be members who would abuse it and break the model.
Unironically, every member would be worse off on their own if VShojo implodes. Everyone would lose viewership and face stronger competition from other indies because guess what, 1+1 individually will always be 2 without a group branding, it can never be 2.5 or 3. VShojo was that 1+1=2.5 anomaly, now that it has been broken you would never have something similar again..

I sort of agree, but at the same time, it really depends on your definition of fine.
Silver has been doing pretty good for herself, Nyan while down in CCV had an interesting run of streams, moved out and settled down more, and also had merch fully at her taste. Vei and Nazuna are goners but they have their own reasoning, I think Vei would have been fine if she streamed more but she doesn't want to.

Now, for the most recent ones, I think Matara has only been affected because she wasn't expected to be fired. But considering her nature, a year from now she will be fine. GEEGA already did fine on her own. And we don't have to talk about Zen. This also applies to the current members too.
Viewership is not just the metric you should examine, but satisfaction and retribution*payment. Basically

The mistake that they made is not investing heavily into building out their sponsorship business.
VShojo should have started an alternate business that specializes in handling marketing and sponsorship for everyone, then use the scale and benefit of that networking to get the best sponsors for talents signed under the VShojo brand.
Instead, they invested into fun stuff and group content WITHOUT having the safety mechanism of IP ownership. They did merch, but merch was easily replicated and they weren't the best in the business.
