The front door slams and the sound of a car door opening a closing is heard in the short distance.
Shondo is gone with Michelle. This isn’t the first time she’s abruptly left to go hang out with her new friend.
Whatever.
Gary’s hangry now. Shondo usually allows the “what’s mine is yours” rule when it comes to food. Gary heads down to the kitchen pantry but remembers he’s not alone.
“Yo Little Critter?” He calls out, aimed nowhere in particular, but loud enough to be heard from any room upstairs. “Would you like something to eat?”
“Okay.” A young blonde girl with dutch braids rushes down the stairs towards the kitchen. “Don’t throw a fit but I have to tell something.”
Throw a fit? What does Shondo’s sister have to say? Is his relationship in trouble? Did Shondo finally injure herself again or her sisters severely this time? What could it be.
“Uhh go ahead shoot. But what are you wanting to eat?”
Little Critter snaps out of her worried state for a second to respond. “Oh yeah, sorry, umm.. could you make macaroni?”
“Kraft?”
“Yeah sure thanks.”
Gary usually doesn’t make meals for other people, however, Little Critter does know him most by reputation for his excellent baked goods. Cookies, brownies, and other sugary delights. She’s his main indulger in his homemade sweets.
Gary grabs a pot from the cabinet left of the stove and fills it with water at the sink. He places the pot of water on the stove, sets the flame to HIGH, then sits back down at the kitchen table.
In front of him sits Shondo’s sister, Little Critter, who’s wearing a hoodie and short shorts. Classic middle schooler fashion.
“Thanks Gary.” She smiles at Gary’s generosity, but returns to her distressed expression, shoulders noticeably tensed up. Shes nervous. Or uncomfortable.
“Soo what is it?”
“Oh yeah umm.. my sister is a fucking whore.” Little Critter is still tense and even shows tensity in her voice.
Gary groans “Frick, I knew it. It’s Michelle isn’t it?”
“Uh yeah. You’d kinda have to be retarded to not notice.”

It was obvious, Gary hadn’t even met this Michelle and it’s all Shondo has been talking about lately.

Little Critter pauses her expression. She seems a little shocked at Gary’s forwardness and honesty.
“I really just didn’t want this Michelle situation to be true..” Gary adds, his hands now on his head, head against the chair. “How did you find out?”
“She’d brag about it in her stupid vague ways of talking about things. You know what I’m talking about!” Shondo’s sister continues to explain in her irritated tone. “And I also saw her kiss Michelle when she was getting in her car last time you were over with your cookies. My bedroom window gets a good view of the front.” Little Critter’s shoulders lower elevation. She seems to be getting the rest of this incidental news off her chest, alleviating the burden of such painful knowledge.
“Wait, are they still out there or did they leave already?”
“Oh yeah. I’m gonna go check!” Little Critter rushes back up the stairs.
Gary returns to the stove, pouring the macaroni noodles into the pot of now boiling water. He isn’t furious, but he isn’t sad. Just disappointed. It’s time to set things straight with Shondo.
