Taxes are based on income. Most people don't know the exact amount of income they'll make by the end of the year or what their tax situation will be, and therefore don't know how much they'll owe. So at least for people who earn a paycheck (Kiara probably doesn't), an estimated withholding is taken out to be applied toward your tax burden at the end of the year. At the end of the year when you calculate how much you owe, if you paid in more than you owe, the surplus is returned to you as a refund.

Seeing as Kiara almost certainly does not get paychecks, I have no fucking clue how she ended up paying in at a minimum 10k more than she owed. But I also have no fucking idea how Austrian taxes work. Maybe she calculated her taxes wrong the year prior and thought she owed more than she actually did.

this entire thread is so fucking poorfag.
she's not a burger and i don't know austria's tax code. but in burgerland, if you're a contractor (all of these girls are), you have to pay quarterly estimated taxes.
the lazy way is to just pay based on the income you owe the last year.

so in my case, i made $400k in 2023 and owed $170k. So in 2024 i split that amount into 4 parts and paid that every quarter on the estimated tax form.
But when i finally calculate what i actually made in 2024, i made significantly less (like $200k). so i severely overpaid my taxes and got back 5 digits in tax refund.

all it means is that i was an idiot and gave the government a free loan.

Add to that that as her own business she pays taxes based on what she paid last year, if she had a worse year or higher business expenses she'll get back money, because she paid too much.

She talked about it before, she has it set up to basically pay an estimate of her taxes for the next year quarterly (without write-offs etc.)
Basically so that she doesn't get hit with a single massive bill at the end of a year.

>>101785483
In simple terms: A tax refund is the government sending back any excess money you paid when doing taxes, if you did everything properly, it should be very small. Getting a large return isn't the end of the world, but you basically gave the government an interest-free loan

Income tax payments for employees are deducted from an employee's gross salary, the more you make, the higher the rate. In addition to this, if there are other sources of income(bar capital investments), she'll have to pay quarterly installments in advance as well.
Her returns are likely high as a result of work related deductions i.e. paying third party artists for their work on videos and art, travel expenses not covered by your employer etc. Also, inb4 you misunderstand, you got to realize that a tax return of 10k requires you to have paid around 18k in work related expenses[under the assumption she made at least 200k, which I believe to be a fair estimation of her taxable income]

Partly because it makes accidentally fucking yourself much harder, and partly because for obvious reasons the deadlines for tax returns are significantly looser when you pre-pay.
Like you really don't want to be in a situation where you owe more int taxes than you currently have in liquid assets.

Pretty sure it's different in burgerland but in a lot of EU countries you are basically "charged" a flat tax bracket monthly and then at the end of the fiscal year your final tax gets calculated by progressive tax brackets and you either get some money back or have to pay more depending on how the flat fee you paid monthly compares to your final tax bracket, usually you get some back. Contractors without full-time contracts don't pay that flat tax, however, so they have to pay all their tax at the end of the year like I believe is how it works in the US.

In theory it's always better to have all your money and only paying your tax at the end of the fiscal year but most people say they prefer monthly flat payments since it's easier to manage your money that way and not get blindsided by having to pay a bunch of income tax at the end of the fiscal year. The governent prefers it that way too since it's basically free loans for them.

Most of Sora's songs and MVs are covered by her music label so her costs are way less than 90% of the talents. She is a frugal woman.

>Calli was so stupid she was paying double taxes when both America and Japan have a treaty that prevents that.
Nah she never actually did this
She *thought* that might've been what she was doing after an IRL friend bought it to her attention, but she talked to her accountant and they already had that covered

thankfully Ina has talked about papa'nis forcing her to go to financial planners and tax CPA since her debut and bought a new build house in Canada (the worse housing market in the world at the moment) but lives in Japan half the year.

Real. My grandparents were semi-literate at best and started as poor immigrants doing menial jobs, but they were good with numbers, took the family business up the value chain and reinvested the profits in real estate and index funds, enabling me to blow an unreasonable amount of the amount they set aside for my college in nerd shit (it's chill, I went on a scholarship).

>Wtf how is that even possible?

In case you really want to know: 22 was a very good year for her, so she made a ton of money.
In Austria you pre-pay income taxes in 4 installments or at once, since 22 was such a good year she had to fork over a ton of money for 23, even though that was one of her worst years so far.
Now she gets back money because the tax bureau realized she made way less that year. Since 2024 was also worse than 2022 she will probably get some money back again next year.
BUT she needs to be careful they don't set her taxes for this year too low now, because she will likely make more than 2023 this year, otherwise she will have to pay back outstanding taxes in 2027.

quite common for contract work. the income is irregular so you do an estimate of how much you'll owe for the year and pay it in advance quarterly. it's better to overpay than to end up owing money at filing time. they put interest on the amount owed from the quarter you start owing them money. (at least in for the US federal tax)
i think the swiss does this too not sure about austria

People act like this is huge? People usually get 4 digit tax returns on average. She's not saying it's on the high end or she would really brag about that so it's in the lower bracket. Using every tax trick in the book and you should be able to get a 5 digit tax return as easily if you earn a lot of money and have a good tax accountant.

You should be getting two digit returns, if you're getting a four digit return as an average salaried worker you need to have a talk with accounting and reduce the amount they withhold from each paycheck so that money can go in your pocket instead of being a free loan to the government for a year
