Hololive and especially Nijisanji models are notoriously cheaply made in house to increase profits. Indies can buy the best riggers for top dollar so they can get 1000 toggles they never use and more jiggle than Jello. Couldn't tell you which is better.

Anon whether you like the change in their indie design they really are superior to Hololive models. For all the hundreds of employees they hired to work on HoloEarth it's actually funny how cheap they are with their Live2D technology. Cover is years behind the standards used by indie vtubers and their main advantage is the ability to hire big name artists.

Cover established a cheap cookie-cutter model manufacturing process that was up to snuff in 2021 but by now has aged quite poorly. They set a not-very-high bar and then never raised it, while the whole rest of the industry kept advancing.

Chibi Nimi is unironically superior to the regular one.
The reason for that is the latter has fucking nothing below her skirt and her legs are very long. You obviously will never see her lower half, but it completely ruins her silhouette.
Chibi Nimi being compressed fixes that problem, her silhouette is far more pleasing.
Fauna still had a better design, however. Nimi is very generic save for her ears.

You're not wrong. The new design is literally just a cute nurse with big tits. The Tapir and nightmare eating aspects are afterthoughts. You could remove the Tapir ears and not lose anything. Unless you knew the background, you'd also not know about the nightmare eater stuff. It's simply not incorporated well into her design. She also tried cramming 3 different things into one character. The guy filtering the stupid ideas of the talents at Hololive is an unsung hero. She would have never popped off had it not been for the amazing design from Hololive. I say this as someone who thinks JP corpos are fucking retards. They do make great designs though

I think a good design rather than being based on some meme rule like 'simpler is better' or 'le silhouette' is decided by how effectively artistic intent is conveyed. The Fauna design despite having a lot of extraneous details does an incredibly good job of depicting a gentle (and sexy) mother nature character. The horns have a lot of character without making the silhouette look ridiculous and the flowing dryad clothes fit well with the theme without being too coomery. The face has these big expressive gentle eyes which fit really well with the streamer's personality. The Nimi design is also good but she's supposed to be cutsey but the face looks sort of sharp. The massive apron frills give her a cartoonish look, but then she has these really long modelesqe legs that don't match with the rest of her cutsey appearance. In the end it's up to personal taste and I can see why someone would prefer the Nimi design though.
