I felt like writing a lot here. Maybe some snackers will take something from this since I've been watching vtubers since the absolute beginning.
It's unfortunate but Mel kind of acts like a baby. I'm sure anyone who has watched her in the past can figure that out about her instantly. She's probably the kind of person who would sooner avoid everyone involving something she failed to do than interact with them knowing others know, if that makes sense. Obviously this is just speculation/projection about what goes on inside an e-girl's brain, but Mel was one of my first English vtubers I watched back when the VShojo girls were fun.
This is obviously the /flip/ general so some bias is expected but Filian has also proven herself good at getting over things, being professional, and fixing situations when there is problem or static. Mel may have changed in the last few years but in the past she would have mental breakdowns over trivial things on stream all the time, and any criticism of her making mistakes (or more often it was just her not doing stuff she said she would) you'd get the army of simps trying to justify everything. Ironically I think this is why /pmg/ eventually became the opposite of the hugbox it once was, because their schizos were created from anons who were Melody enjoyers that grew jaded when she was slacking and any complaint or criticism was seen as anti behavior and not just wanting their oshi which /pmg/ preferred to call their waifuto do better.
/pmg/ is also a good study and microcosm of /vt/ where the good times never last and the schizos (who generally are former megafans) will stick around to be a pain in the ass in whichever general until they're the only ones left. Another thing that kills generals is when people start incorporating more and more +'s to the discussion, usually because talking about someone new is more refreshing than talking about someone established (you can see /lig/ do this every day because there are so many literal whos that get talked about while the actually large indie discussion has to go to /BIG/) and people also talk about new faces when there are dead hours, like a Tuesday or Thursday night on /flip/ for example. If you look at /swarm/ they have fully embraced this self-destructive tendency but it's even worse because some of their posters act like the Holostar and Nijimale enjoyers who just love talking about how their "bros" are probably smashing random Holo/Niji/Indie pussy, perhaps to enjoy the "victory" vicariously. They act like the ultimate sisters because it's just a bunch of speculation on which orbiter is winning the turtlebowl while the funny Neuro moments are all on /wsg/.

That being said, /flip/ is one of my favorite threads regardless of Filian being my oshi. I'm glad 99% of the Filian antis just stick to /lig/ and /#/.

As for /flip/ going downhill, it definitely isn't, but nothing good lasts forever on 4chan. That "bastion of positivity" thing used to describe other threads, including /lig/ since they made a thread that immediately created an identity with their OC and also none of the corpofag "she's a whore you know" stuff would work since that's 1. not as important when you don't care about idol culture and 2. hypocritical to care about when /lig/germen are all whores who watch like 20 vtubers (or at least they did at first). I'm not going to keep on talking about other threads for long but I will point out the downfall of /lig/ was largely to do with the "too many +'s" since the standard of exclusivity became something that hundreds of indies (and all of /wvt/ except the orbiting 2view males) could achieve meant there are way too many people on-topic to the number of anons around. Then the sharty stuff happened and now /lig/gers are split between 4 threads on 2 different boards which makes discussion even more sparse unless it's dramafaggotry about someone no one normally talks about.

Well, I benefit from living in a place where natives are quiet and don't talk to each other in public unless it's a bar or something like that, and eye contact is for when you need something. Combine that with noise canceling headphones and having acclimatized myself to people over time, and trusting in the social invisibility of unremarkability (and others being too wrapped up in their own world to really care about you).
