Vtubers are using a Live2D model but that does represent their online identity. All their life stories are directly attached to that model and it does affect how others think of that character. Mumei told viewers that after her graduation she would show her 3D lives to her family and when you consider their family watching them it does explain why they have mixed feelings about the sleazier elements of being a Hololive idol.
