Is this in Japan? Must be, right? Since when MTG is third place in japan? Last I checked, it was way less popular there because of the "gajin product debuff". Where this list comes from?

Wotc (hasbro suits) has been pandering to nips for a while now. Pandering to them is free, because they pander to weebs at the same time. Between that and the whole UB shit I dont play anymore. I will be long dead before blocking spongebob with my spider-man wielding a katana.
Funny enough, I was hoping for a hololive secret lair some years ago...

I got a good like year of play out of my hololive weiss cards, so I'm pretty content with that. As for the Holo TCG making it in the states, it's way too early to tell. The price point and card split in the set is kinda a hard sell for someone to invest in the game if theres a very good chance its gonna flop in terms of support at locals. If singles end up being affordable, it will be less of an issue, but I really have a hard time seeing how the secondary market will sustain itself on box sizes that small. Like between 2 boxes you won't get more than 2 copies of a common or uncommon. Also rares having the potential to come in SR variant is such a scumbag move since its not alternate art, just some of the text boxes taken away. You get one SR a box and if its taken by a R, you're gonna feel bad.

This is a monthly chart, so heavily skews if a game has a high profile release that month. In this case, the mtg FF crossover set was released which sold gangbusters, pushing mtg up to 3rd. Normally it's not that high, still top ten, but not top three.
>>102267594
Duel masters never left in japan. It, pokemon, and yugioh battled over the top three positions for a while until pokemon took over number 1 for good leaving it to squabble with yugioh and now one piece for the scraps.
As for holocard, it seems to be doing pretty well. Sets keep selling out and local events have decent numbers.

It's pokemon with some of pokemon's flaws fixed.
Energy(Cheers) has its own deck that you auto draw one per turn, so you can (mostly) plan your energy ramp.
Knocking out an opponent's holomem gives them a bonus energy encouraging come backs instead of the win-more prize system.
The collab system is a risk/reward allowing two attackers but also might let your opponent knock out two holomem in a single round.
But you're incentivized to collab to build holo power for your oshi-holomem's (commander in mtg terms) special effects.
Games are usually close assuming you build a mildly competent deck but some holomem are more over-tuned than others, it's still a card game after all.
Depending on the secondary market in your country it's probably best to just grab singles for your chosen oshi. And grab every copy of mikkorone you can find, every deck wants it, to the point it was already reprinted in the latest set.

Being 6th overall in the monthly chart despite it being almost a year old is pretty impressive considering its below the big hitters like one piece and yugioh. I honestly would have thought magic would have hit #1 for that month (iirc this might just be one stores sales so it might be different if all stores get counted but its still a bit dissapointing considering how the final fantasy magic cross over was mainly aimed at Japan.

Just want to remind you that this is Japan-only sales. Pokemon is likely number one, followed by MTG and then Yu-Gi-Oh if looking globally.
I have no idea why OP would show Japan only, other than there really isn't a good gauge for the global sales of tcgs. All I can tell you is that there is 100% more magic players worldwide both casually and competitively than anything else on the list and there are more Pokemon collectors than anything else on the list.

YGO is stagnant in terms of audience and gamplay, MTG will be over SOON(tm), scamdai is retarded and keeps hurting their own brands by spamming new games (UNION ARENA AND GUNDAM WITHIN A YEAR), pokemon is the only one with any real remaining staying power (God willing, MTG will fizzle or restructure). I can genuinely see a world where Hololive's tcg is in the top 3.

Card games are still for kids (supposedly) so lots of the games still try to keep their packs around the 200-yen mark. which necessitates smaller pack size.
Also with the pokemon shortage some shops are limiting sales to school children, keeping with the whole 'for kids' thing.
Some foreign games like lorcana adapted to the japanese way (and are locally published by takara tomy) and have smaller japanese pack sizes and box sizes but they've got the disney license to deal with so their packs are ~300yen.

In-universe, the card game in Yu-Gi-Oh is called Duel Monsters. Maybe that's where you got confused.
>>102291632
WotC's (successful) attempt at making a card game for Japan. Dunno the history between it and Yu-Gi-Oh, but MtG has historically had trouble gaining traction in Japan, which led to the creation of Duel Masters in the first place. It's only recently that MtG has begun rising up the ranks, due to WotC heavily promoting it and making Japan exclusive promo cards to grab more interest away from other games in the Japanese market.

>Duel Masters (デュエル・マスターズ, Dyueru Masutāzu) is a multimedia franchise consisting of multiple manga and anime series, a trading card game, and several video games. It began as a manga adaptation of Magic: The Gathering before branching off in 2002.

>The Duel Masters Trading Card Game is a two-player or two vs. two team collectible card game (CCG) jointly developed by Wizards of the Coast and Takara Tomy (itself an affiliate of Hasbro, which owns WotC). The card game is part of the Duel Masters franchise.[1]

>The game was released in Japan in May 2002, where it quickly became the number one selling trading card game for over a year.[citation needed] Owing to this popularity, it was released in the United States on March 5, 2004. The game shares several similarities with Magic: The Gathering, the world's first collectible card game, which was also published by Wizards of the Coast. In fact, Duel Masters was originally intended as an alternative tradename for Magic: The Gathering and the earlier game play was abandoned in the Duel Masters manga plot to promote this latest experience.

Yuigoh's own card game premiered just three years earlier to Duel Masters (and in original manga form, was just a giant reference to MtG).

WoTC has had nothing to do with Duel Masters since like 2010, I’m pretty sure they don’t even hold any rights to it in Japan. They dumped it due to “weak sales” in the west. TakaraTomy is the company in charge of it in Japan. WoTC technically still holds the rights to DM in west but they don’t do anything with it.

They released an extremely shitty western only reboot of the game in 2015 alongside an equally shitty western cartoon instead of bringing back the actual game.

Well either way they still just milk it for the copyright aspect and have had no creative input with it since Kaijudo or whatever that abomination was called. I guess that’s why TakaraTomy made Wixoss which is just hot anime girls the card game which plays likes DM. So they don’t have to give WoTC money kek

It’s a top TCG in Japan right now but it will probably only be a small niche in English. The boxes are almost double the price for the English version, the fact that HoloEN keeps hemorrhaging talents hurts any brand loyalty the game might have here, and the organized play will have a minuscule amount of players compared to the Japanese version.

Not to mention that ratios for the English release seem entirely fucked. I just caught wind of Cali opening 100 boxes and not seeing a single signature card. That's 8 cases and some changes. That's fucking insane to not get a single chase rarity in 8 cases. Bushiroad went full fucking greed with this printing.

No because the difference from those top from each other is greater than the diffrence from HoloTCG to 10th place

It's a shame Wixoss died out in my area because I like it a lot.
For whatever it's worth, WOTC does still occasionally offer Duema some MTG crossover cards. And I don't know if it's still the case since it was mentioned in an article years ago, but one of the leader designers on the game at one point in the 2010s was a former MTG designer who moved to Duel Masters full time in 2005

It's not about what any graduated talents are doing now you sperg. It's more about how the HoloEN as a brand is quickly becoming more of a sterile product rather than just a group of individuals who stream. While the game is decent enough mechanically the main draw is that you can play using the talents you enjoy. If the perception of HoloEN becomes more jaded, people will be less likely to want to buy in to playing as them in this game.

I'm so proud of her selling out her concert, according to you. Truly a day for a joyful kek.
