Ok numbers I have a question I've been thinking about. I've seen a few youtube videos from very touristy channels where they show their internal youtube analytics at the beginning of the video. They do it to show how some big % of their watchers are not subscribed. Like I've seen as bad as 66% not subscribed or even up to 80%.

My guess for Holo girls is that they have something closer to 20% unsubscribed. Just from natural tourists, aka people clicking on a stream for the first time ever. And also people who will never subscribe out of sheer laziness/not wanting to admit that they like vtubers.

I find it hard to believe that channels like Fuwamoco and Kiara when they do sub begging are getting somewhere between 1-10,000 real new people to click the subscribe button. What I can believe is that their existing fan base is somehow helping them cross the arbitrary threshold. From the slightly more sophisticated buying bots, to the well meaning low effort fan who subscribes with a second account, maybe third account when things get desperate. The reason subs matter is because it is the ONLY persistent metric that can be used to compare the reach of YouTube channels.
CCV can't be used for that, it's too variable and context dependent. A different game, a different day, a different anything and it swings widely.
It is also not persistent, it only lasts until the live stream ends.

Subs is an easy to understand metric and easy to convey the meaning

I think the main reason to care about sub counts is that it is a good fast metric to say, this channel can potentially reach 1 million unique paying customers. And companies see that and calculate how good the ROI is based on their own data + historic data.
