iirc the thumbnail removal was because niji was sending out copyright strikes. Niji is technically allowed to do this If you go by japanese law. Though It would be fair use in USA.
For the slander part. It is very much a America vs Japan thing.
Japan is extremely strict and even if you have blatant evidence of a person/business doing something wrong. You still cant speak out about it (Unless it is in the publics interest).
In America, slander is not only about the substance of the matter. It is heavily dependant on the intent of the accused. There must be proof of malice beyond a reasonable doubt.
From what I remember seeing, I don't think False would fall under the US version of slander. Despite how much they want to push japanese law on an American based in America. I doubt it would make it that far, especially with Anti-SLAPP laws.
