Michael hissed, “You don’t belong here, Vito. This is sacred—”
“Yeah, I figured,” Vito snapped, stepping into the room with a saunter that screamed Goro-approved confidence. “Any time y’all break out The Spatula™, somebody’s either about to cry or lose their PayPal.”
Dewd lunged.
Vito pivoted with terrifying grace. His Crocs squeaked on the linoleum as he slapped Dewd in the face with a plush Majima keychain.
Tuffnar gasped. “Majima merch?”
“Limited edition. Got it with Twitch points.” Vito grabbed a nearby folding chair. “You want some too, Michael?”
Michael raised the spatula, trembling. “You can’t stop the purge.”
Vito grabbed the spatula mid-swing. His hand closed around the greasy handle without fear.
“Oh, buddy. I’ve held worse things. I once picked up a Shondo body pillow at a con. You know what’s stronger than obsession?”
Michael blinked. “What?”
“Leg day.”

Vito winked. “Well, I’m built different.”
They stared at each other. One fit, stylish, absurdly kind. The other still greasy, still trembling, but healing.
In the background, Dewd groaned and tried to reach for a backup Frosty.
Cordies took Vito’s hand. “Can we go?”
“You’re free, man.” Vito tossed him a fresh shirt. “Come with me. We’re starting over. No parasocial chains. No spatulas. Just you, me, and whatever’s left of Finland.”
As they walked out, Cordies glanced back at the trio on the floor, squirming like bloated beetles.
Tuffnar croaked, “She’ll never love you either.”

The night was still.
Outside the apartment window, the moon hung low, swollen and almost smug, casting a pale glow over the tiny IKEA table Vito had dragged in from the hallway. Across the table sat Chestnut, a soft, pity-baiting British man with tear-glazed eyes, perpetually flushed cheeks, and a body shaped like someone who subsists entirely on Richmond sausages and passive-aggressive Reddit replies. He wore his finest Shondo hoodie, the one he claimed she glanced at on stream once when he posted it in chat.
Vito, ever the dramatist, had dressed in a half-unzipped biker jacket and nothing else. His bare chest steamed slightly in the candlelight from the post-shower heat. His single Majima earring glittered each time he turned his head toward the screen.
“Play the VOD, Brother,” whispered Chestnut, cutting into the crusty pasta with a plastic knife.
“With pleasure, Brother,” Vito replied, grinning with the same grin he used when beating someone with a folding chair. He reached out, touched the keyboard reverently, and pressed play.
The stream began.
Shondo’s high-pitched voice crackled to life, slightly out of sync. She was singing something impossibly sweet, a lullaby maybe, or a meme song distorted by poor internet.
Chestnut gasped. “This is the one where she reads my dono, Brother. The one about my hospital wristband collection.”
Vito leaned forward, eyes wide, trembling.
“She said ‘That’s kind of weird but cute.’”
“I remember.”
“I wept.”
They both did.
Chestnut set down his fork, hands shaking as he reached for Vito’s. Their fingers met in the space between the candles and the Chromebook’s heat vent, slightly damp, slightly greasy, entirely sincere.
“I thought I lost you when you ran off to save that Finnish artist,” Chestnut whispered, his voice thick with treacle and trauma.
“I came back, didn’t I?” Vito said softly. “That was a mission of mercy. This is a mission of meaning.”
Chestnut blinked through tears. “You only said that because I posted my blood pressure chart in your DMs.”
“And it worked, Brother.”
They laughed. Loudly. Painfully. Then quickly hushed themselves when Shondo started reading donations again.
The night deepened. The lasagna cooled. Somewhere outside, a car alarm wailed like a distant anti.
Vito pulled a blanket over their laps. Chestnut leaned in. The room was filled with the pale blue of the paused VOD and the strange warmth that only comes from mutual delusion embraced wholeheartedly.
And as Shondo giggled through another superchat and misread someone’s name, Chestnut sighed.
“I love you, Brother.”
Vito didn’t blink. “I loved you when you posted the empty Pringle can with the caption ‘eating air again.’”
