It was mostly said in jest but FF2 shows why most games have instant-death spells be useless because it goes for the other direction. It has like 9 different instant death spells and a few of them almost nothing resists to the extent that most bosses can be destroyed in a single cast to say nothing of random encounters.

The puzzles and level design are enjoyable in their own self-contained way but yeah the Rod is so inflexible it's not even funny. It just gives you a chore to visit few statues you've seen throughout the game for minor treasure and absolutely nothing beyond that. Spinner suffers largely from the same.

spinner has that issue too but not as much as the rod because you can technically still use it a little everywhere and its spin attack is occasionally useful for swarming weak enemies
the spinner puzzles are more fun than the rod ones too in my opinion as they require more effort but also have some fast pace to them while the only good rod puzzle isn’t even a puzzle it is getting to walk a giant hammer back through the dungeon you did smashing everything

I don't really follow what the mainstream is doing but I have the feeling that they're expanding and grasping for too much and are due for a recession at least. There's just too many of these huge streamers and by that token they all become less iconic and memorable.

And yeah, won't affect our small to medium streamers much probably.

Correct, retro streamers will outlast GFE, corpos, and greater twitch/streamer culture because retro games are immortal and the culture around retro is generally about collection, hobbyism, and appreciation of culture. You might never see the insane numbers that the biggest streamers get, but you'll always have a relatively loyal fanbase.

Even if twitch, kick, and youtube itself were to die, you would still find retro vtubers making do somehow.

It's an interesting phenomenon. I'm not quite sure why it is this way.
