Vtubing isn't dying. The zeitgeist has died. Being able to thrive off the gimmick of being a vtuber is dead. You have to be a content creator with a live2D avatar if you wish to thrive. Vtuber in that sense will continue to thrive but as they exist now, yeah it's dead.

The live2d avatar is nothing but a liability. It's normie repellent and content creators want nothing more than higher numbers and income so they don't have to work a real job. Without the zeitgeist, vtubing can't sustain itself. It's too cringe and 'impersonal' to zoomers who would rather see a real face.

This doesn't even begin to cover how good AI has become and how obsessed normies are with finding secret trannies in everything, so they want to see your face to make sure you aren't "one of them"

I mean, yeah. Zoomers definitely like VTubers, I don't think that's the issue. The problem is that they've become part of the broader streaming culture, and the gimmick of being a VTuber has grown tired.

I would say the gimmick got tired around 2023 and now it's withering away. This is sad for the culture around vtubers but I think better for the individual creators in a weird way.

First and foremost, being a content creator with the pure gimmick of being a vtuber is dead. You have to be doing SOMETHING else and just so happen to be a vtuber to make it in this space and for new indies, that's been the case LONG BEFORE 2023. Vtubers being integrated with content outside of the bubble though gives them better chance to collaborate with other people and it not be weird or out of place,
