Yes although it's not necessary to be a good VTuber. I think the issue is too many nowadays forget that they're essentially cartoon puppets and act like generic streamers instead.

I think vtubers should only ever play a character for prerecorded content, never live. If unicucks can't directly interact with a character it makes it much less likely for them to get attached and sperg out later when their fefees get hurt.

since nimi is a western indie she clearly felt like it was fine to break the japanese idol kayfabe. and at this point is probably ok with shedding her idol fanbase since she already got their money from merch and a concert

Kayfabe is nice specifically for precoded and RP content, it's really useful for fans as well if they want to go fangames or fanfiction and whatnot

But for streaming? Going full force into kayfabe reaches its limits extremely quickly and falls into pure cringe, I'd rather watch a streamer that basically pour their own personality into the thing and uses kayfabe only to hide some specific infos about them.
