I'm was just mentioning some different types of merch but to be honest, there isn't a big difference with what I said and those classic bedroom showcase streams where people shared their pics in a discord channel. They earn money and you use it as a way to build your community.
Regarding the other things, the bigger IPs don't depend that much on the games as you would think. All the ones I mentioned can survive without them because the the characters themselves are what attract people. Idolm@ster and Love Live have some franchises without games that are doing great. They still sell Muse and Aquors merch, just like Aikatsu is still alive without a new anime.
