>While Niji and Holo are commercially super successful, Vshojo is struggling financially.

Why did this happen?

Can't virtue signal your way into insolvency. Being financially sustainable is always more important than clout.

You can criticize companies going public as sellouts or whatever, but at least that means this sort of thing (almost) never happens. Publicly traded companies have to release all their quarterly financials so if they're going broke, we know about it. And Cover even tells us exactly how much of their revenue is going to their talents too.

JP vs US
It’s obvious that EN vtuber viewers don’t actually translate into revenue.

But they didn't. Not even mentioning the whole "not paying memberss what they deserved" part, Kson and several other members have said that they took a cut from various things.
Given that VTuber upkeep cost is on the lower side and it's not like VShojo was dropping big projects left right and center, I have no clue WTF they spent their money on

Shylily said that they had a clause on their contract that said they take 5% from any 3rd party revenue the talents takes on its own, even if VShojo had nothing to do with it.

Because people don't understand anything and just use the dynamics to virtue signal. They bash Holo and Niji for taking a cut of the girls earnings yet praise Vshojo for not taking a cut. Turns out Vshojo was the one not paying anybody since they had no way to generate income. The ironic thing is that by taking a cut of the girls earnings companies like Holo and Niji continue to stay healthy and can use that money to create more opportunities for the girls to make even more money than if they just kept those 30 cents on the dollar that the company took to begin with.

I have no proof but I heavily suspect they paid certain members huge upfront sums of cash for joining. Especially for kson.
I suspect gunrun planned to poach the shit out of Hololive and nijiJP until he had their top talents and that he would then figure out how to turn the company profitable after destroying the competition with investor money.
Unfortunately only kson and some 2nd tier nijiENs were stupid enough to join.

Likely they were too new and rushed too quickly.
They likely never went positive from all the money put into the corpo and were probably years off from it.

Vshojo's entire monetization was taking a cut of the merch. All other sources of revenue was 100% for the talents.
