She is urged to remarry, but doesn't want to. In order to dissuade suitors, she tells them they have to be able to string her former husband's bow, or else they're not man enough to marry her. No one is strong enough to do it, except Odysseus himself when it turns out he's still alive and is able to return to his wife.
