First impressions are important, the first audience you go for determines your base level and that can also scare away other potential viewers. Politics and world events are the exact things that people want to get away from when watching vtubers so it makes sense that she scared away her initial viewerbase and its very difficult to recover from that. Also the attachment to Nijisanji, especially the English branch, could cause problems with optics.

It's counted by adding all member-related events from her chat using YT API (including gifting, joining, renewing membership and sending member's monthly message).
On one hand, if someone joined her member outside of a stream, it wouldn't count in that "Member" in the table (since there wouldn't be an event to be recorded in the chat). It won't subtract from membership if someone doesn't renew his or her membership either (again, no event) which is the case for most gifted memberships. On the other hand, the number is inflated over a year because a person can technically send multiple events if he renews or rejoins her membership during a stream.
All in all, that 12K doesn't mean she has 12K members over 2024 - or doesn't mean anything much at all. It just means that there were 12K member-related events in her chat throughout 2024. Very different things.
