The actual answer is mostly nothing, all three just left for unrelated but understandable reasons.

Sana learned that she wasn't a good fit for VTubing, and so left early, making her the closest thing to a "hiring mistake" of the group. Mumei left because she was literally losing her voice, and Fauna left because she wanted to get married and not constantly travel to Japan apparently.

There were certainly some coherency issues early on, as well as living in Myth's shadow and being clearly thrown together quickly to capitalize on Myth hype, but over time those issues have mostly been smoothed out. So in the end, it was just circumstance that caused them to happen to be the first gen with three graduations.

The months of "health" breaks indicate there was more going on behind the scenes. If Sana was asking for a model redesign and things got heated that would explain why her contract was not renewed with Hololive. There were many curious health breaks with Gura, Ina, Kronii, Ame, and Mumei so contract disputes in the EN branch were fairly common.

Honestly just seems like bad luck. There's not really any factor to ties these three together. Certainly a lot of the quitters were normalfag womyn who couldn't cope with the corpo environment anymore, but that applies to Myth and Council somewhat equally.
It doesn't apply to Sana who despite hating vtubing is hardly a normie, and it arguably doesn't apply to Mumei who IS a normie but still loved holo and didn't quit for petty grifter reasons. I laughed as Sana's "back hort" meme for a bit, but I legit just came out of back surgery a week ago and definitely understand how excruciating chronic back pain can be.
Fauna just wanted a different life, s/naplings aside she likes being a streamer but hololive is still an idol company so there's a lot more than playing games that the company requires from their talents, coupled with jap permission autism it does make sense why she decided to graduate.
I do hope the best for the girls in their ventures, they were there for my oshi.

I don't know honestly. For a while I felt that the issue was Myth was so good they were just getting outshone by them. But now Justice and Advent are so much better than them and even some of Myth by leagues. Maybe whoever was in charge of hiring had a bad day or was new or it was something else.
But I think it got worse because they were the defacto EN gen for years while Covid was going on. There was no one else to take the spotlight off them and while they are okay. When you've got no one else (especially since Gura and Ame were on almost permanent hiatus's constantly) people realized they weren't as funny, driven or excited about the fans and vtubing in general.
When I see Cali or Kiara talk about auditioning they always mention that you need to have a dream. Something you want to work towards and achieve in Holo. I suspect most of Council didn't have any dreams or achievements they wanted to make and this is why the gen fell apart inside and out.
It's crazy because I never expected Kronii and Bae to be the last ones standing but they obviously have aspirations unlike the others (except mumei).

In saying this, the gen was a mess, which made them both the best and worst depending on how you view things. The gen lacked cohesion as most of the girls split off into their own weird cliques where they meshed with Myth. Kronii, Fauna and Mumei were clearly their own little section heavily tied to Gura, whereas Bae and Irys sort of formed their own grouping with Calli. I feel this lead to all kinds of weirdness between the two gens that caused major declines in brand identity for Myth and Council when compared to the much more corporate Advent and Justice.

While this may be bad for Hololive, I do genuinely miss gen 2 and their lack of guardrails. As a gen, they are clearly not together at all, but individually, them and their little groups were easily the most entertaining stream content. The Bunkeronii and SNOT are liked for a reason.

As for why the girls left, it has already been said in this thread. Fauna clearly hated travel and I don’t think she had much of a group by the end. Gura was clearly leaving and some bridge had to be burned with Kronii, take out Mumei and all her people are gone. Mumei had health issues, also she was losing Gura and Fauna.

2025 is a horrible year to argue that contract disputes don't happen in Hololive. Besides the recent wave of 7 graduations there was the Kaela model redesign (that cost more than a 3D live), Ayama getting a visual update to make her model less sleazy, and Shion graduating to redebut as an indie with a modest vtuber design. They don't want to be humiliated by their job really shouldn't be a confusing idea and it makes sense that Sana, who is a professional illustrator, decided to leave Hololive because Cover was refusing to give her a redesign.

That is close to what she wanted to do in her career and despite the embarrassing jiggling boobs design she did jump through a lot of hoops to stay in Hololive. That is likely why she was upset with Fauna because she wanted her to stay for another year for more contract negotiations even though there was little chance that Cover would let Fauna skip the paywall concerts.
