What's going on in the VTuber industry that makes some creators hide the fact they're working under a company?
We've already seen plenty of cases where shadow companies or shady agencies trick the audience into thinking they're supporting a small, struggling indie, when there's actually a ton of money involved behind the scenes.

This is literally normal, you sign the contract LONG before you officially debut in any corp, in that time you ARE basically """hiding""" your membership.
The literal only thing that makes Mint's case different is that they strung her along for over a year for the reasons we all know now.

No one tells anyone they are in a company until they debut. The only difference is that they usually graduate after signing a contract, but it's Vshojo, she wasn't losing her character so there was no need for it

only one I can remember straight up lying about being part of a corpo was uto, and from what I recall they made her do it, along with tagging all her streams with a bunch of holo related tags.

I think (okay, more like hope) that the spectacular failure of Vshojo is going to put a stop to this. Fans who got into this hobby through the early Nijisanji EN gens are sick of this shit. All these corpos really offer in the end is a potential signal boost, and it's in exchange for a lot of grief, wage theft, and missed opportunities.
