I think it has more to do with him wanting to meet the expectations rather than personally caring about it. All vtubers get new models and costumes, so he followed suit. Even with v2 model his pretty much only requirement is that she must look similar to the original because people are already familiar with it. Like, I'm pretty sure if you showed him 5 different designs from different artists, he wouldn't be able to choose just one.
