Justice 3d debut made me realize how shitty Kronii, Calliope, Kiara, Ina, Bae designs are.

When Bijou had the 3d debut it was already noticeable how much cuter Bijou was when compared to any other Holo EN.

But now the difference between Gigi and Raora, and the older stuff, is too jarring.
The new stuff is MUCH BETTER!

C'mon, cover makes millions every year, I don't think doing a new 3d model is that expensive, maybe $1000 at most.

They should give the older talents a chance, unless they are scheduled for graduation already.

It's up to the talent to decide if they want to have their base designs updated. Circumstances can also get in the way, like if the original character designer isn't available or Cover management slacks off.

A new 3D Model that is not shit costs around 3k dollars.

Fucking vtuber models cost more than a thousand, you can easily x10 that for 3d models that need to perform live instead of just standing there. Now I don't know how much you want to revamp, let's say 40, that's already easily half a million right there, can they do it? yes, will they? nah, they'd rather burn it in metaverse.

They do it but it takes ages to do since 3D stuff has a really slow pipeline + it cost money
Talents Fubuki, Mori, and Marine has used one of thier 1 million sub wishes to expedite the process tho

If you mean DESIGNS designs, as your first sentence insinuates, no.
That is far too much work for half of the talents in EN, as that would also include the 2D. I think only Kaela, one person, has gotten something that drastic. And she still doesn't have a 3D model.
However, you probably meant the 3D models. I don't really know how you can compare cuteness to the ones you listed, as that's not their goal. And moreover, how would updating the model make it cuter? It's still the same design.
At least "better" is a bit clearer & less subjective, and there are examples where certain models are clearly better (Ex. Fuwawa's bib doesn't move whilst Raora's bow does) They might need to do a 3D 2.0 soon-ish, like how the older talents have a 2D 2.0 and 3.0.

You've hit on an interesting point. If we idealize a VTuber's skin as a core element of their identity, then they should be adding and updating them constantly, rather than being stingy with new releases. The fact that they're not doing this suggests that even the VTubers themselves are tacitly admitting they're just streamers.

Fan bases don't always evaluate those changes as good, so if the current situation is being accepted, I think it's fine to leave it as is.

If you mean the models for streams, they are updating it bit by bit (like Kronii or Flare).
Some old models are still working good enough that they only need to update the app to make it better (like pic related).

If it is the models for mocap, that is another matter. Takes time and money and 1000 dollars pér talent is not enough.

There's only a one-year gap between GEN2 and GEN3 in terms of going 3D… Can things really change that much in just a year?

I believe the evaluation here extends even to the rigging and motion tracking.
Also, I don’t think Justice’s 3D is perfect. It’s disappointing that Gigi's ventilation fan doesn’t spin. It used to spin in 2D, and I loved that...

In Japan, 3D creators are, just like here, primarily assigned first to films, then to games, and finally to anime, with the most talented individuals crossing the ocean to work in Hollywood. You are overestimating Cover’s engineers. I would understand if you said they should headhunt more skilled talent, though.

Forget designs, they need to just do a massive overhaul of the rigs.
It's fucking stupid that new hires have to start with the garbage rigging until they "get upgraded" to 3.0... which is still super far behind modern indies.
