Because in Western vtubing, having a boyfriend makes you an irredeemable whore. Having a husband is fine though. These random bluechecks that dramatically 'come out' about secretly being married for attention every week get a lot less backlash compared to the ones that slip up and accidentally mention their boyfriend on stream.

It's weird but it's just how western society works. Watch some American family sitcoms to get a better idea of it and how deeply entrenched it is into the idealized normalfag belief system. You can pick almost any one and find an episode with this oddly specific trope in it

She doesn't need money from people on the internet anymore. Obviously she'll still take it but it's not her number one priority now. She made the decision to uproot her life like this because she has found or is at least under the belief that she has found a source of stability. The decision has already been made but what she needs now is validation that it was the right one.

If she came out and said she moved across the world to live with her tenuous e-boyfriend she met on 4chan, everyone would call her crazy and reckless. Once they get married and stay that way for a little way, she can retroactively say she moved across the world with the goal of marrying someone that can take of her. It would be a bold-faced lie but her audience will eat it up and be supportive. That is all she needs. Lapin is very simple in that regard.

Mau has a very very moderately successful non-vtubing Youtube channel. He's not huge but tapped into a niche that yields consistent enough views for the time being. It wouldn't really affect things on his end much at all. The bigger worry for him should be what he's going to do when the niche he found dries up but that's a different topic.

Lapin's stream viewers are worse than they were 5 years ago. She lost that broad appeal she used to have at some point. The viewers she does still retain are very dedicated and a lot of them have sunk too much money in to pull out over that alone. As long as her content stays the same, they probably won't mind. It's just given her history, I have strong doubts things will go that smoothly.
