Money is the end all be all of stats. You can easily bot views. It's why its a big issue now and all the major streaming sites constantly enact purges. You can't bot ad revenue, merch sales, etc., at least without a significant disposable cash flow.
Of course, we'll never know the true stats behind that. We can make educated guesses based on limited merch and how fast it sells out, but even then it's a guess, and a small part of a bigger whole that's left unaccounted for.
