It was an anonymous job and they didn't care about their image never considering they would have the job for so long.
I think it was Shion or Subaru who revealed that Gen 2 in their first year talked about what they would do in 3 years since they never imagined Hololive would survive that long.

Newfags will tell you its due to homo collabs, which certainly contributed, but its really the Apex stuff that had triggered the decline of Matsuri from being one of the main faces of Hololive alongside Fubuki. In fact, both Matsuri and Fubuki are one of the first to actually appear in an anime as themselves, it was in that anime called "detective is already dead" or something.

There was also no GTA RP in the early days or at least there wasn't one in which the Holos were invited until a few years ago, by which point Matsuri's viewership was already in shambles.

She was my gateway into holo. I knew korone and pekora existed from some discord vids floating around at the time, but I didn't know they were part of something until I saw Matsuri's band-aids clip.

In another timeline, I could see her band-aids clip or other degenerate nonsense becoming the face of western vtubing instead of miko's GTA, and she became the ultimate lewdtuber, potentially affecting the future growth of hololive. Mio's forest and Noel's noels would have a lot more prominence, too.
