EN vtubing is just stagnant as a whole.
You can see this when you look at where Nimi and Sabas subcount bottomed out.
There is a finite ceiling you can reach and there won't be any noticable growth after.
It's also why the twitchwhores are getting more fierce in their battle for views, a growing amount of vtubers has to share a finite amount of resources (viewers).

Even on the JP side subs seem to bottom out, that's why they are trying to reach new markets through normie tv shows and stuff.

No, this is Kiara being menhera. The girl that kept pushing yuri stuff Calli didn't care about to leech her numbers. Well, it is covers fault, but not in the way you think. Their recruiting just isn't up to scratch. Them getting Gura was one in a million, but most of their EN gens were really not put together all that well. Myth was carried hard by Covid & Gura with only Calli having some potential to help grow the audience. Ame had one creative stream a year and everything was mid. Ina and Kiara are both flops in their own special way.
Promise was pretty much flops all the way. Fauna was good at making money for herself, but not a single Promise member helped actually grow Hololive EN.
3rd gen the same. FWMC had some great buzz but they decided that their heart is in Japan, so they self-sabotaged.
And with the latest Gen they tried to go Europoor begging but it hasn't moved the needle, either.
Meanwhile JP gens have been strong and while there have been flop members, most gens had at least a couple members that could establish themselves and become stand-outs.

Normal people have and always will find anime weird. One Piece being popular won't change that. Being into vtubers means being deep into the culture. There are references to BL, ecchi, and H content that those people don't enjoy. Vtubing filled a void in our hearts that we didn't know existed. It's been five years since HoloEN's debut. There aren't going to be that many new people to join the fandom. In fact, there was a slight decline after the first few years once some people got tired of it for one reason or another. Market saturation is here and the only thing new talents will do is cannabalize the finite number of fans that their predecessors already captured.
