Are they aware literally this same thing happened with Iroha/Lui? Iroha tried as hard as she could to let Lui get ahead of her but even while Iroha was basically off for a year, she still maintains a slight lead (that is probably growing now that she's active). Granted, Iroha is also very popular when she does stream and Lui is one of the least popular Holos, so it makes sense. But in terms of EN I'm pretty sure Ina has always gotten way more viewers than Kiara, I don't watch them enough to know. I'm pretty sure Council had something sorta similar, I remember them all hitting 1 million around the same time (apart from Fauna who was way behind) but Mumei hit it while on a long hiatus. Ao only recently got passed by Kanade in subs despite her possibly permanent hiatus and Kanade generally integrating more into the Holobox but Ao is still decently ahead of Ririka.

Even with the stars fiasco and EN sharply declining, Gura was still getting 50k+ subs a month. Anons forget that Mori was the #2 most subscribed in Hololive at the time. She dropped the most.
But after Senzawa posted that 'uh oh' tweet during contract negotiations, Gura was on her way out doing promotional obligations. Which still made Cover tons of money with little streaming. HoloEN is now -50% YoY. Cover should have let her cook.
