Due to a kajllion anons making a bazillion accounts each, access to the free tiers now requires a sort of deposit. Openrouter wants $10 and you can get 1,000 messages per day. Chutes wants $5 for 200. Stick to the free models and you're good forever (or until their policy changes again). Kluster.ai is sunsetting services in favor of building a filter that will effectively cover up the flaws in other models while also catching wrongthink before it's generated and more effectively preventing fun.

That's going to keep being a pipedream unless you are okay with some commercial business running the hardware in exchange for you owning your chats and personas and etc. No hardware manufacturer has come out and wanted to do a "run any open model you want" machine with all batteries included, I imagine the field is still changing too much and there are too many middlemen to actually make a profit.

Renamed to DGX Spark and now actually has a product page on Nvidia's website.

Define "slow". But if we're talking around the speeds of them running something like a 70B dense model, then yes. Reading speed is around 8-10 tk/s and AMD's Strix Halo and DGX Spark and most Apple silicon machines probably only get around half that at best at that size even if it fits. MOE would be different, of course.

I mean, it's not unusable if we're talking about models smaller than that or MOEs which is going to be the future. But I don't think that it is a waste. Lagging the leading edge by 9 months is really not that bad. But the main thing is really the whole aspect of control and what the service providers telling you what you can and can't do. Even Claude 4 isn't good enough, Deepseek's score is half of that even with CCP programming by default. It's just a difference I'm willing to compromise for by running local but I know most of you won't which is okay, we all pick and fight our own battles.
