Since the catalog keeps shitposting about numbers, it must be noted that YouTube is currently heavily culling the numbers of English vtubers on the platform.

On August 13th, YouTube rolled out their new AI age verification system that immediately impacted the numbers of English vtubers on the platform.
>How bad is it?
Very bad. Vtubers will see anywhere between 30% to 50% of their average numbers cut when they're doing similar kinds of content.
>Is it the children?
I don't know. YouTube being YouTube, there could be a lot of false positives. There may be something about lurkers/low-commitment viewers/tourists not being counted.
>Does it deal with bots?
No. Streams can and do still get botted.
>Why just English vtubers?
The system has only been rolled out in the United States.

>What does it look like in practice?
If you watch the CCV counter for like five minutes, you'll notice that hundreds of viewers will disappear and reappear every minute or two. Plotted on a graph will look something like picrel.

Now for some examples. First, the catalog's favorite shitpost target: Saba. She actually offers the clearest example that something behind the scenes was changed that impacted her numbers through no fault of her own. She has been culled by a whopping 40% between the four days of her Wizard Night collab and her next RE4 stream. Literally nothing happened. Nobody can say "she did that or said that" to explain it away. It just happened.

Did /#/ pull these figures out of their ass or is there any data / science behind this?

Holo examples are not as clear because streaming activity has been iffy this month, but there have been some stark standouts in individual event streams. First is Biboo and CCGG karaokes. These are the absolute lowest numbers they have produced for karaoke streams ever, and not by a little bit low. They cratered.

Now for some smaller vtubers. I'm going to use Kanna Yanagi as an example because she's consistent and streams every day. Taking her numbers off Playboard, she's also experienced a nearly 30% drop in average CCV. In fact it's so severe, you can draw a straight line on the peaks of her average CCV after August 13th and almost every stream done before then has stayed way above that line.

I have no idea. She is the VA for one of the characters, though, so that makes it special. Her gaming streams are usually 2view territory compared to 300ish for Karaokes, but ZZZ was pulling over 400 at times.

Again I have to point out that it's likely not the AI age verification. A similar thing happened at the same time last year - so unless they were trialing the AI without saying anything (which I wouldn't put past YT to be fair) I don't think the age verification thing is the cause. The AI verification is supposedly only active in the US, but I've seen streams of chuubas (and fleshies) who have large Euro audiences who are streaming at EU times also being effected.

Whatever it is, it's really bizarre. I've personally seen in at least three streams now of three different streamers the CCV jumping up and down multiple times by 300-400 people (sometimes more) within the space of a minute.

UK and Aus don't have the AI age verification yet. Also I've seen some people who had YouTube accounts since the early days (pre 2010) who have supposedly been deemed underage because of the content they've consumed.

I've looked at what details Google thinks it knows about me (which you can find here https://myadcenter.google.com/controls) and it's fairly accurate apart from the fact it thinks I'm a woman (I presume because I watch a lot of cute animal videos and cooking shorts) and it thinks I speak Vietnamese as well as English (I've no idea why it thinks this - I've never interacted with Vietnamese content as far as I'm aware)

In regards to the UK, Discord and X fell under the category of sites that the Online Safety Act was designed to control, so they did start to restrict anything they considered "sensitive" to those who'd verified their age but YouTube didn't fall under sites required to comply with the OSA (for some reason). Australia is planning on banning YT for anyone under 16. But in both countries the AI system hasn't been implemented yet for some reason.

Interestingly 4chan is also a site that's been deemed to fall under the OSA but they're threatening to take the UK regulator to US federal court rather than pay the fine they've been threatened with - if 4chan does and it wins then I will no longer shit talk hiroshimoot.
