Reverse the question:
Would it be fair for the partner to be put into second place for the idol's affection? Absolutely not, you can't even talk about being in a relationship if that ever happens.

so different from the anime
is it true this basically morphed into a harem story surrounding the mc?

The "bad" feeling one gets when something like that happens is because the oshi in question went from someone you liked to someone that wanted it all. They want the audience, the fame, the money AND to have a partner AND they don't want you to leave or get mad at them. It's an incredibly selfish thing. Entertainers get to have an unconventional job, sometimes it's even fun for them most of the time, they don't suffer through what normal people do on their daily grind. And on top of that they also wanna flaunt a new partner too? No, make the sacrifice of being alone for your comfy fun job or step down, you cannot have it both ways, and all of the ways which end up with the fan ALWAYS being at a disadvantage. The audience sacrifices their time and sometimes money, often times a lot of it, to support their oshi. And then the oshi sacrifices... nothing in exchange? Not fair at all. It's a very simple concept to understand but westerners always try to make it about some other twitter shit. "Parasocial" being their preferred memeword. Those people genuinely enjoy being treated like fucking shit by everyone in their life for some reason.

Didn't the Watamote guys use to at least back in the day be /here/? How recent is this chapter, I honestly don't doubt it's actually about Nimi.

If the idol wants to continue being a traditional idol then yes the lover comes second at least for open expression of affection, he's still getting to be far more intimate with her than any of her fans.

Yes, Tomoko eventually stops being the girl failure that she still gets memed as being and makes friends, which pissed of channers who wanted her to be a loser like them forever, in fact not all different from people getting mad at vtubers finding love.

She want it all.
She carefully crafted a plan for this moment.
When Saba revert to her lazy self, Nimi will become no.1 vtuber in the west.
She change what is taboo in vtuber world. Soon. more vtubers will openly announce their relationship. Even the corpo ones will try to push this agenda to their management.
If you don't like that, leave while you still can.

pretty normal for fans to be upset if the whole premise of the thing they enjoyed changes

The only reason you would want Tomoko to be a loser forever and never improve, is because that's how your life is, you should take that as a sign to go self improve.

My issue with Watamote isn't that Tomoko got friends, it would've been too sad if she was still friendless at this point. The issue is hat she went from having 1-3 friends that she was still somewhat at odds with to having a fucking harem.

My sister got married to a guy who bicycles 3 times a month with his childhood friends. He keeps doing it and she is not part of it. He is also a bookrat that's another activity she is not involved in. Sure a realtionship requires time spent together but that doesn't mean that they have to completly change their previous lifestyle.
Sometimes my sister is just 2nd or 3rd place on the priority list.

yeah same, she had friends already even in the anime so that was never in question

She's not simply announcing marriage but make it a lore drop meaning that her character also married. She declared that Nimi Nightmare the vtuber is off-limits.

The real reason why watamote became worse, is that the yuribaiting got in the way of the best ship, that is Tomoko + her brother.

Fair enough, coexistence between interests is possible in a normal relationship, but there's no perfect reconciliation between the interests of a romantic partner and the interests of an idol. Spending 10-12 hours in the studio, in the recording booth, having to sacrifice weekends for concerts (or in the case of vtubers, for consistent streams or for events), is going to put a strain on any relationship. Similarly, going on getaways, meeting relatives, having to take care of a partner when they need assistance is going to mean less preparation for upcoming activities on the idol's end, which will make fans disappointed.
Sure, being schizo about it is not helping anyone, but there's no denying that having a relationship as an idol is detrimental to their activities 999 times out of a 1000, and that makes people lose interest in the idol.

You can tell how asshurt the mangaka was by how much they tried to spin being parasocially attached to an idol as some noble pursuit. They probably got btfo on 2ch or twitter and sought to soapbox their frustrations in their manga.

/vt/ realizes this is a little delusional, right? Tomoko's saying it which should be the tip-off.
>If there comes a time when they begin to treasure the time spent with [their boyfriend or girlfriend] more than with you
An idol, movie star, or seiyuu doesn't ever spend time with you. Unless you're watching a 1view, a vtuber doesn't either.
