One stream ran recycled content consistently at 2k viewers for nearly 3 years straight to farm botted adrev, which was slashed to 250 viewers after the change. Several very large creators saw their numbers slashed completely. Asmongold lost ~20k viewers. Lacy lost nearly 3/4 of his viewers, being cut from 30k-40k down to 8k-10k.

It's likely not all the bots have been removed, Twitch is calling this their "first pass".

I think your stated definition of "unicorn" is a little mistaken. Typically, unicorn refers to a fan who believes their oshi should never interact with other men -- so a unicorn would get upset if, say, Noel were to collab with one of the Holostars members. Even if it's just an innocent collab, with no romantic undertones, simply interacting with a man on stream would be "unacceptable" to unicorns.

To say a unicorn is a "fan who wants their oshi to be devoted only to them" is to give unicorns a little too much credit. Unicorns are really dangerous and really harmful to the fandom, and it's a little disappointing every time I hear a vtuber encourage unicorn behavior. I much prefer members like Matsuri, or Suisei, or most of Hololive ID, or Shiori, who immediately dismiss unicorns. It is better to remove them from one's fanbase than to encourage them.

EDIT: My point with this comment was to define "unicorn," as the definition provided in this video is incorrect. I see a lot of people in the comments incorrectly defining it as well, though. The classic definition of "unicorn" in this context is, someone who is so possessive of their oshi that the mere idea of them collaborating with or featuring a man on their stream AT ALL, even once, is enough to anger that fan and possibly get them to drop that talent as an oshi and stop watching them altogether.

This is manipulative behavior, as it's basically telling the talent whom they can and can't associate with, or guilt-tripping them for choosing to associate with certain other talents. It's parasocial behavior at its most parasocial, and it IS both unhealthy and dangerous to the community. Most Holomems have proven themselves capable of dealing with such people, and, conversely, a few are even welcoming of it -- but others have let behavior like this really get to them, or even stopped collabing with men due to the loud minority spooking them from feeling comfortable doing so.

If you prefer to see female vtubers only collabing/interacting with other female vtubers, and even if you choose not to watch streams/clips in which they do so -- but don't try to "scold" them for doing so, instead just waiting for the next time they've chosen not to collab with men -- then you're fine. I'm not attacking you here. You are NOT technically a unicorn. You may self-identify as one, and I think those talents within Hololive who claim to understand unicorns, or claim to be something of a unicorn themselves, are referring to this in an effort to defuse a sensitive topic (see recent clips of Ririka addressing a unicorn's superchat) -- but offering preferential treatment to talents when they collab only with women is NOT what I mean here. The dangerous behavior -- which I feel even talents sometimes encourage, if unwittingly -- is those fans who feel entitled to having their oshis not collab with men, and refuse to continue watching them if they EVER do, even if it's just once or twice in a packed stream schedule.

If that's you, then yes, I think you're a major part of the problem and I hope your oshi tells you off and you leave the Hololive community forever.

If that's not you, then nothing I've said in this thread applies to you.

I can't believe I had to spell this out in so much detail, but I woke up to find the most unhinged replies in this thread, so rather than jumping back in and replying to each and every person, I figured I'd just edit the original message to give my final thoughts on this matter.

If you STILL think I'm a "tourist" or think it's fine to practice the behavior I've outlined here... then I would strongly suggest re-evaluating your life, and maybe touching a little grass. Nothing I've said here should be controversial in the slightest, and the fact that I've gotten pushback for saying it is very telling of what a sorry state the vtuber community is in in certain respects. Where are you getting that unicorns are the most profitable for any vtuber? Sora, Suisei, and even Marine actively distance themselves from unicorns and are among the most reputable and profitable vtubers in the world right now. Hololive Indonesia's most profitable member, Kobo -- currently the biggest vtuber in all of Indonesia by a wide margin -- regularly collabs with the Holostars boys, even hosting them at her house and having her mother feed them a home-cooked meal once. And among the most profitable Hololive English members are Calli and Bae, both of whom have collabed with Holostars many times.

Holostars are indeed doing "just fine," but they could be doing a lot better, and joining forces with the Hololive girls would certainly help that become a reality! We've already seen how much regular interactions have impacted the popularity and viewership of Roberu since he started regularly having Hololive girls as guests at his "bar," for example, and the Armis boys saw a huge spike in viewership after their appearance in Elizabeth's 3D debut.

The two branches interacting benefits everyone, talent and fan alike. Whereas there is no evidence that unicorn fans benefit anyone at all -- and certainly no evidence that they are the "most profitable for any vtuber"!

Marine and Pekora choose not to interact with men on stream, and that's fine -- that's their choice -- but Marine, at least, is very vocally opposed to unicorn behavior. Korone, on the other hand, absolutely does not "limit her interaction with males on stream"!
