She’s not naive: being an idol or a vtuber is not a sustainable long term career and while I’m sure she’s financially stable and enjoyed her time in holo she doesn’t wanna do this for the rest of her life. I’m sure some day she’ll wanna get married too and that presents a moral hazard there as well. I’m rooting for her and am hoping she’s off somewhere doing her marine bio PhD

She had health issue. If you watched her at all, during graduation month she cough a lot while streaming or doing karaoke. Anyone would tell you that it is not the right idea to keep streaming. She took a break several times and it 's not getting better for it maybe chronic and permanent. Streaming is not the only career path in her life. Especially with a fan base like EN Hololive who always think they are in the right. I still remember when Myth and Promise were getting burnt out. Why didn't she take the affiliate deal so she could just maintain the possibility of occasionally showing up in the future? What conditions are in that deal that almost no one has chosen to take it?

There isn't anything preventing non-affiliates from reprising their roles except a lot more paperwork. The affiliate deal is essentially still being on the records as an employee/contractor just with no pay or obligations.
Ame likely only did the affiliate deal because Kiara pushed so hard for it and she always tries to do everything for everyone. The others didn't bother because they knew they were done with hololive and didn't want to create expectations that they'd return.

Due to the only two members to be affiliate were Ame and Chloe who had merch still coming out it was pretty obviously a play by Cover to let the talents graduate but still tell companies like GSC "Those figures will still sell. The talents aren't graduated, they are still around...in a a capacity" after the Rushia incident left certain companies holding the bag with tons of unsold Rushia merch they sank alot of money into developing. But it looks like alot of companies have wised up to it seeing as how all of Ame's stuff has basically fallen into the void and is pretty much cancelled despite her still being "semi-active". This may have been the "experiment" that Ame had alluded to when trying to describe the whole affiliate program.

2. Mumei isn't set for life, but based on what we know holo pays talents, she's got a comfortable retirement lined up if she breaks even for the rest of her career. She can afford to go the PhD candidate/ postdoc/ prof route and still retire at 55.
