VTubers industries are literally just like current ESports teams, like yeah, some are big, and they know it, and there's likely some shady shit in every corner. But there's literally nothing else, other than self-manage and that always comes with trouble, high rewarding? For sure, but nevertheless issues will arrive, thus many will join a team, or in this case, a company.
VShojo wasn't different, it was just another coat of paint for people who were mostly out of touch of what they needed to succeed in this high volatile market.
Also, obviously, you have to really make sure what's going to be your measure of success, and even if I like the concerts, and you know, some stages have been quite the goal like the recent one; it is also acceptable to say, that a highly produced concert isn't really a good measure of success considering the cost to even do it in the first place, it is an achieving task tho.

Is the company able to easily replace you? Yes. There are so many 2views eager for a shot at the big time, and while a lot of them are crap, there are enough that are good enough to take off with the branding and reach an acceptable standard. At the very worst, they may admit they can't really tell who's really going to be successful and who is not, which means they might as well just pick from the cooperative ones anyway.

Your labour is not in high demand. If, say, Cover can't employ you, are there even a dozen other vtuber companies that will eagerly snap you up and then let you earn even half of what you earn as a holo? No.

Do your union members have a reason not to scab? No. The vast majority will never even get hired because positions are so few they can be counted on one hand. They can't strike with you and then merrily slide into thousands of high-paying vtuber jobs afterwards, reassured that you've negotiated a 80-20 split or some bullshit.

The only possible way a union could work is if its members are somehow able to leverage large, loyal audiences for public pressure. But then, if indies had that, they wouldn't be trying to join a company. Which really lays bare the hypocrisy of it. They frame the union issue in terms of fairness, but the only people who want such a thing bring nothing to the table to even begin to balance the scales. If they begin to be able to negotiate on even ground with corpos, then they, oddly enough, become unwilling to. Ask any 4view if they're willing to start a union and spend weeks and months lobbying and rallying their audience for the good of "the industry".
