there are genuinely very few vtubers worth watching nowadays and trust me when i say almost none of them debuted in the past 5 years and the ones who did debut after 2020 are either 1views or at best 2views
and there's so much drama which more often than not is caused by either shitty business practices or twitter troons being pissed about the smallest fucking insignificant ridiculous thing imaginable

I always thought that especially when it comes to the JP heritage and early EN, vtubers were sort of like a modern day super hero. Their identity is secret and must be kept secret at all cost and yet they wear a costume and adapt a persona for the greater good and making people's lives better. They would collaborate with each other, similar to a crossover comics where two of your favourite characters would interact. They walk around IRL knowing full well nobody know who they really are and are satisfied solely from the good brought to the community. Of course they're tempted to scream loud and clear that they are human beings before being heroes with their own challenges and their own victories and would want for the people in awe with their masked persona to be in awe with the human behind the mask as well. But acting on that impulse is what separates authentic good characters from narcissists.

It's admitting that getting recognition and attention for your actions is more important than the reason why you do the actions themselves.

I understand your point but that logic is backwards. Their identity has to remain secret only after they became a superhero. Batman wants his identity to remain secret so there is no chance for his private life to become a problem during crime fighting and so that the crime fighting doesn't interfere with making money.
We read superhero comics from the perspective of the hero and not from the perspective of the public.

I've been saying for ages that EN was unironically a mistake. ID even worse. Even if you ignore the whorification that always comes with EN, the problem has always been how the whole concept doesn't work in a Western environment. They'll always end up as twitch e-girls but with an avatar.

Probably earilier, but someone with better memory than I have can probably remember when the first round of graduations and companies folding started. And it's not just vtubing. Streaming as a whole, across all platforms, took a hit this year, and even longer form content creation in other areas started tanking summer of last year.

I have no idea if views as a whole are down, or if other competing types of content are pulling in views instead.
