We talked about performances mostly. We also talked about penlights, things we saw, merch, who was handing out free stuff, what we were doing.

A large part of it was definitely plans. I know people /here/ are opposed to it and I am too but sadly there's no way around it, there's just no better way right now to coordinate things than Discord. Especially with the number of people we had this year. Twitter is too slow and people don't always check it.

Even Discord isn't perfect, I was on 4 separate Hololive Discords for the event, two of them Ruffian focused, and there was still sometimes miscommunication and missed communication. I would highly recommend that if you ever go to one, you either begrudgingly install Discord on your phone just for that event like I did, or stick to a Ruffian who is on one of the Discords. More often than not, plans to hang out were finalized at the last minute, where to go, what to eat, and the plans would change as various people went and left.

The greatest thing about the Ruffians is how welcoming and chill they are, you don't have to know anyone, you can just walk up, BAU BAU, and then follow along. There were no cliques or shit that I could see, yeah some people might have known each other from other events but there wasn't like a hierarchy or anything. Ruffians were free to come and go as they pleased. There were some Ruffians who I never saw talk at all, but they stayed with the group the whole time, maybe they're more introverted Ruffians but I hope they had fun all the same. On the flip side, this openness makes it hard to plan things ahead of time because you never know who will show up and who won't. There was a plan for a 15 man karaoke and a 12 man room for overflow. There were vastly more Ruffians interested in that then RSVP'd and I don't even think most were on Discord. So they ended up going with other groups.

Anyways I had a great time and I highly recommend it. I'm not a very talkative or loud person but I liked hanging out with everyone.

So what's Cover's logic in everything being so goddamn secretive? All the talents being forced to say, "We're working on things we can't talk about yet... we're busy with certain things for the future..." Do surprises sell better? I would've thought that knowing what's coming allows fans to save up money towards it, instead of dropping it out of nowhere in an announcement stream and everyone saying, "damn, I can't afford that right now..." I can understand certain sponsorship deals needing to finalised, NDAs blah blah... but when it's just like, a new song, outfit, whatever... does it really matter if audiences know? Are they afraid that if an outfit or song gets cancelled, they'd be liable for making false promises to consumers or something?

For things like outfits it probably has to do with general community hype. Your fans wouldn't mind knowing earlier and would even prefer, but the average hololive casual who hears about the outfit once and then checks the stream even though he doesn't normally watches you would completely forget about it if the time between announcement and release was too large. And since they usually have either merch or a cover or something like that dropping with outfits, they don't want to miss out on any eyes on them. So it's to the talent's best interests too.
Song sadly is necessary because of perms going bad last minute, happened before. You don't want to jeopardize your relationship with the other company even further by having your fans harrassing them because the deal didn't work out.
I don't think Cover is worried about their own customers getting angry at them, they're worried about their business partners.
I do agree with your sentiment, though, I wish it was less secretive too, at least for things we all know are coming. FWMC will have a 3D LIVE for their birthdays, it will be prerecorded, why can't they blow off some steam by talking about some of the practice and how much time they spent deciding on the songs and recording sessions and stuff? I'm not asking for them to spoil the setlist, just to not have to keep normal day to day stuff a secret.
On the other hand this has the positive effect of strengthening relationships between holos, however. Since the other girls are the only ones they can talk to without risk getting Mel'd, they end up developing these bonds naturally by simply always meeting at the studio and being able to talk to each other about more things than they can talk to anyone else, even if not everything, of course.

It's hard to ask for more things when they're all so busy already, but I really do think Hololive would benefit immensely from having something like DEARSTAGE Showcase, where they just let idols/units/gens perform live to show their growth and something they've been working on with simple production, actually live and not much notice.
No unique 3D stage, no huge crew, no 12 choreographies to learn, no studio recording of the vocals, no weeks of cleaning up the motion data, no post processing and fancy subtitles, just pick a song, practice and perform on the main channel. Something like once every couple of months, participation entirely optional, it wouldn't even be long enough for everyone to perform every month, let people do comedy sketches too, not just song performances.
