it's a very solid and well made game of its genre with unique and endearing and inoffensive world and character designs and has a souls-like appeal for being challenging
and it uses the souls style of worldbuilding where it's all esoteric and mysterious and shit
and literally anyone can afford it and be able to play it on their system
and there's a ton of edging circlejerking going on around the game because it's been in development for 7 years (for no conceivable or justifiable reason)
mega fans of the game or the dev team are super loud about how it's a masterpiece or whatever bullshit, normies and others hear this and buy into it, circlejerk grows larger, cycle of hype becomes self-sustaining, etc.
it is by no means bad but it's not very entertaining to watch and all the hype built up around it is the result of 7 years of jerking off over it, and the pedigree that comes with having such a small dev team (instantly gains you accusations of "soul" and being a plucky artistic underdog)
