Offkai’s year 1 was still in a better venue with dedicated rooms for concerts, panels m&g. It was at a hotel, and the pro to that is they had big medium and small rooms to use
One of Vexpos problems is using curtains to try and create individual space. You can get away with that if the hall if huge. I think next year if they could rent 2 smaller halls that are next to each other, it would work better. Have one hall for vendors and meet and greets, then have another hall that is the main stage for concerts and panels
Anonymous No.104360968 [Report] >>104362626
>>104360692
Weird thing is that having been to some events at the NEC (not VeXpo though) you can subdivide halls with detachable walls that can be installed in various ways depending on what's required by whoever is running the event. I don't know why they wouldn't use that option rather than just curtains (unless setting it up is prohibitively expensive).

The dividers were used last year, since they rented only half of a slightly larger hall. This year it was the entirety of NEC's smallest hall. They rally need to think if they want to go larger and more professional or stay as a slightly amateurish local con.

It is a catch 22. on one hand, holding the convention at the NEC, a legit nice convention center, is a flex and adds more legitimacy than holding it in a hotel conference center.

on the other hand, they had to use curtains to create rooms and space, which took away a little bit from the experience. at the very least, the main stage should be it's own dedicated room. meet and greets can have curtains usually IF there is enough room

It was my first VTuber convention and first con of any kind in years. The only other cons I've attended were relatively mainstream (Comic Con, gaming, tech) and I only went for the day; this was the first one I stayed for the whole weekend. I've been aware of VTubers for a while, but it's only been a casual interest for me until recently. I went mainly to see my oshi PillowDear who was making a few appearances. I didn't recognise many of the other guests.

It was poorly organised. Almost everything was delayed and/or ran over its allotted time slot. There were many technical issues. They didn't give me a ticket to the Idol Anarchy concert that I paid for like they were supposed to, which I found out as I was queueing for it. They did sort it out in the end however and I got in, and the member of staff I'd spoken to was very apologetic when she saw me again the next day.

Despite the issues, I mostly had a good time and plan to go again next year, circumstances permitting. It's just cool having one of these events near me and I want to keep supporting it.

I think that's the opinion from a lot of people. It's undenyable there was a ton of scuff and a bunch that they need to sort out for next year, but there was nothing egregious that would be reason enough to not go again.

I'll try to write down my thoughts after reading the posts in >>104357608.
Good fun, I went last year, this year and I'm pretty sure I'll go next year as well.
Vexpo grew a lot from last year and I'm not quite sure they were ready for it. Echoing the point about queues from >>104357608 queues for single events (Concerts, M&Gs, Panels) often stretched around the booths to the point that figuring out where each queue ended was tough to make out. Which was annoying, but in a way also a good icebreaker to start a conversation with the next guy in line.
Leading to my next point, the audience. Sure it's vtubers, what do you expect, but especially at the concerts, where you're sat really impacted how much fun you were going to have. Anywhere but front center and the standing area the people were just completely devoid of enthusiasm. Strangely enough that was not as big a problem last year not sure why.

The floor planning was a disaster, honestly. What worked well was separating the Main and Exhibition Stages to two opposite ends of the hall.
What did not work well at all was the positioning of the Meet and Greet Booths. Who's idea was it to put them in the center of the Hall? I didn't manage to win a m&g ticket this year but everyone I talked to said that both understanding the talent and being understood by the talent was impossible. They really need to work on a solution for that issue. Either separate the M&Gs into a second hall with the Vendors and the Gaming area or use Headsets and figure out a way for the staffers to monitor what's going on with an earpiece or whatever.

The company booths and Vendors were great. Seeing all the big fan creators was fun. I spent way too much money, but at least I don't have to wait for shipping I guess. All the big hitters had their stands outside the Artist Alley, which is understandable but funnily enough I think that led to less people actually knowing about them because for merch everyone just went to the artists.
The maid café was hidden all the way at the back, strange choice in my opinion, especially as they put way more effort into decorating their stand as a café this year.
In my unqualified opinion, swapping around the M&Gs and Maid Cafés would have made a lot more sense.

But all in all, good times. I'll definitely be back next year. I've heard from everyone I talked to how much fun the fan meetups are, I'll try to go to some of those as well if I can manage to keep myself engaged in one of the discord communities.
But even just talking to random people you meet in line, on a smoke break or the pub a couple halls down was great. Talking about what everybody enjoyed at the con, which vtubers they follow or even where someone got a specific piece of merch was a lot of fun. I talked to a guy who I met last year already and it was like catching up with an old friend, even though I only met the guy twice now. The sense of community really was something special. Maybe it's the /vt/ bubble speaking here, I'm not usually the type of guy to hang out in fan discords, but online you just don't get anything like that.

3D concerts are still a new thing in the EN scene and I don't think a lot of en vtuber fans know how to act yet. That mized with being reserved anti socials who just want to watch and not be involved, but their energy is key.

I wasn't there, but the clips I saw of some of the concerts the crowd in front of the camera was just kinda moving light sticks or sitting, but you could hear all the energy and callouts were happening in the back it sounded like they understood the assignment but they were in the back

/wawa/ breakfast was at my hotel, some thick European accents amongst them. Most Germans and Belgians I met happened to be Holo or Mint fans. I got invited over due a disagreement over sausages or bacon to start the day

/xvsj+/ was near the Starbucks in the NEC as it was part of a planned (and failed) meet for the larger fandom. Out of all the fan meets I went too, I think /xvsj+/ was the biggest fumble. Without Vshojo as a brand, the fans felt very divided.

>but everyone I talked to said that both understanding the talent and being understood by the talent was impossible
I didn't have any issues with hearing anything during the M&Gs I was at. Though I was also lucky and didn't have them scheduled during concerts, so there wasn't much sound bleed from the Main/Exhibition stages.
But yeah, just talking to randomers in the queues was a good way to pass the time. If you're both in the same queue, unless it's one of the merch stalls you both like someone at the thing you're queueing for and have common ground. Having merch is a great way to get chats going as well. I had a look around for people with certain bits of merch to talk to and had more than a few people talk to me because I was wearing my Man I Love Fauna hat.

I tended to try to sit in the middle and I did hear a lot of callouts for certain bits, but yeah the energy isn't quite there. In concerts I don't feel cringe, so I was doing all the callouts that I could.

For songs they know yes. Some of the concerts didn't hit because it was Japanese tracks without much coverage in certain circles. It all depends. 2d karaoke singing is easier on the surface because you can just pick any song you want and go. there is no worry for anything else or structure to the overall show you just do your set and that's that.

3d concert is tricky because you have to actually move your body to the song you dont just want to pick a song you like but there is no dance to match it because you will look like a dork. there are not a lot of english popular songs that have dances that go with it. vocaloid and japanese stuff has dances, tho. also i know for certain cons, you are not allowed to just sing any song you want there are rights and unions involved (vexpo not one of them. but cons like anyc you have to get rights approval or it be fair use or they wont let you)

I wouldnt say it didnt have as much industry support as offkai gen2 but the level of turnout for vexpo this year was either the same or a little bit more.
Offkai didnt sell out (though they had more space at the hyatt than vexpo used at the NEC) until gen 3 and also didnt get holo support until then
