Do people actually watch vtubers without a parasocial attachment?
I’m trying to leave this hobby. I see people sticking around posting things like “I watch her for the content” or “she’s the funniest streamer I know”.

This has to be massive cope right? I’m not saying vtubers are boring but there are funnier more directly entertaining streams I could watch from regular content creators but I chose not to because the parasocial relationship pushed watching my oshi over the edge.

Everyone who has an oshi has to have some sort of romantic feelings to them, right?? I just can’t imagine otherwise and I have to believe that those who say otherwise are simply lying to themselves if they actually consistently watch streams

I'm a NEET so after I watch my favorite non-chuuba streamers there's still time left to watch chuubas.
No chuuba is as good as my favorite streamers I've been watching for 15 years but I used to watch even more mediocre streamers to pass the time before chuubas came along and were better.

Wait that's real? I thought we were just joking? Who would be retarded enough to actually get attached to some online randoms who you'd never meet?

Yeah people that have never recieved a "fell for it again award" in their entire lives, I can watch Vtubers because i'm not an incel, i'm well adjusted and not mentally ill. While i'm single now I don't need some fake E-girl because any "relation" you have with them is just pure fantasy.

If you watch vtubers to feel a relationship you're not much better than Chat GPT losers that use the AI as their girlfriend, it's utterly pathetic.

Do you fall in love with a tv or movie actress because you've seen all their films and interviews?

I like the tech, the art, the worldbuilding and the music. I don't feel like the core audience though.

There are straight women and gay men who have female vtubers as their oshi, so you clearly don't need to have romantic feelings for a vtuber in order to enjoy their content. It shouldn't be hard to understand that men, even single ones, can enjoy watching vtubers for the same reasons. You're just projecting too much.
I'll agree that most regulars in chat are simps, though.

I do not have any romantic feelings for the streamers or vtubers I watch, no. They entertain me and are on when I'm gaming.

I think staying completely non-parasocial is very difficult if you watch them a lot, so when they start doing explicitly parasocial content, I leave. Like when Nimi suddenly tweets out about getting married and doing streams about becoming a mother

Ya it is pretty easy if you have real people you actually interact with. Parasocialism is a product of isolation

There's nothing wrong with liking an artist and hoping they do well in their personal life. That's just being a fan, and that's been around forever
