I feel like Mori doesn't understand movies weren't as easily distributed back then. The average person's ability to see a movie was pretty much limited to what the local theater was showing.

I know what it was like from my Dad and Mom telling me; but in the 90s and especially the 2000s you could pretty much see anything you wanted to see in theaters. Even in my average midwest town we had two big theater chains, a "dollar" theater, and a small independent theater which played anime, kunfu films, etc.

By the time you got to the start of the MCU there was never a movie that didn't make it to a local theater.

The English version of the interview doesn't come off as clean as it didn't in Japanese but the reason basically boiled down to:
We (as the original team that made Tactics) wanted to deliver the original experience to a new audience while giving all of our old fans the same experience but better looking from back in the day.

War of the Lions ( IMO the objectively better version, but I haven't played the remake yet ) was made by a different team at Square. So there might be some creative differences between the two teams.

Look, I'm all for War of the Lions getting a remake or DLC add-on to this game.

I'm actually ashamed to say that back in the day my older brother and our mutual friend were big Tactics fans and I got kinda hard locked at one point; so they finished the game and loved it but I never did. At least until I bought the game for like half-price on the PSP shortly after it released. Got a used UMD copy and blasted through the entire thing in like a week.

I also, by that point, had a ton more tactics games under my belt and had a way better understanding on how to play them. I tried to play FFT originally like it was a normal Final Fantasy game and you really had to think harder than that. I probably would have gone back to FFT and finished it earlier if the PS1-PS2 era wasn't so stacked with amazing releases every single year and always being backlogged with stuff to play.

OTOH I will say that lets be glad the awful slow-down and some of the needlessly stupid extra missions are not in this version of FFT but they are using the WotL translation. While I love the PSP game it also ran like absolute dogshit at times. Though I don't know if the mobile ports were bad.
The extra missions at times were also just "we flooded this basic map with 50 of the same dude, go kill them all!"
