The worst thing Vshojo did was ruin people's trust in these kinds of agencies.
Well aside from the charity thing.
Hope this one fares better

Hate to be cynical but the major issue with talent agencies where the vtuber owns everything is the actual company isn't going to earn much and they have little reason to invest in characters they don't own. The agency business model can give a small amount of marketing but will never compete with the massive amount of marketing from Hololive and Nijisanji. There really needs to be a middle ground (the company owns the IP but the talent can buy the character if they leave) but so many of the western corpos are scams.

Eh, hard to tell.
That'd entirely depend on the prices set. Even if it's something like 100-200k I could see some holos or the higher ranking nijis able to afford it.
The biggest issue is that the rigs themselves are dogshit and the assets are overpriced and usually far shittier than what they could get on their own for those prices. But they keep their own vods, accounts, covers, subs, and ad revenue in this case, so idk. I could see it working if it works like Brave's model (a year of continued shared revenue + a lump sum)

I can see these "keep your IP" agencies working out IF the corpo keeps their support scope small. Use the merch/sponsorship cuts to hire 1 manager who can maintain the corpo email and social media accounts, merch organizing (doesn't have to be anything fancy), and maybe pay for a booth at a con. If they stop there, I can see it working out.
When they start talking about "dedicated teams of people" and "in house pros for graphics, art, and audio mixing" that you know they're never going to make enough money to maintain operations and will undoubtedly close down.
Anonymous No.104662147 [Report]
>>104662079
Yeah, who even asks for in-house stuff? Feel like vtubers enjoy shopping around when they need work done.
So they have to commit to a certain way of doing things/art style or waste support money paying people they don't use.

even if it was in the 100k-200k range (chatgtp gave me a ballpark of 100k-3mil+ range which seems extreme) that's just not worth it most of the time when they can just use like 4k for a new model and just start a new channel keeping a vast amount of the audience they had. not to mention the hassle buying out the character represents like all unshipped merch, legal procedures that need to happen to transfer the rights over in the first place and whatever other bullshit needs to happen

>3 million
It is not farfetched.
Cover’s IR states that they paid 5729 million yen to the talents last year. In dollars that is 39 million, so each one of average got paid at least 400 thousand dollars.
That is their payment, so the IP in itself must cost at least double the amount they are getting paid because that is how much revenue each IP generates before Cover gets their cut.

the cost to produce one of Marine's songs + anime MV is in the range of 100k-200k, and she's done that like what, 3 or 4 times already? their entire character IP is worth many multiples more than that

Maybe, but that's not necessarily what it'd sell for.
After all, if they leave, the revenue becomes 0 and the IP becomes worthless.

Even with Gunrun's Holo boner, Vshojo's business model would fail anyway because he is not getting enough revenue and has no IP.
The only way for them to sustain themselves is if they get a big cut from merch.

>After all, if they leave, the revenue becomes 0 and the IP becomes worthless.
Eh, in theory you can still sell merch of a popular dead talent, that's revenue right there. I bet Cover still occasionally gets sponsors/collabs asking if they can slap Gura on it
Anonymous No.104668996 [Report]
>>104666043
Don't quote me, but as I understand it, even trying to buy a dead ip is expensive as fuck. Something like projected max profits of thirty plus years. For a dead ip, that no one wants to buy (because then it wouldn't be a dead ip). And yes, the company's opinion of profit probably differs from yours. Remember that game companies can sell 3+ million copies of a game but still consider it a failure.

The IP is worthless to the person who buys it but it's only worth anything to Cover as long as they refuse to sell it. Most of the things that make a character themselves in something like Hololive are all the stuff you wouldn't be able to buy when you buy your model. You'd end up even more strictly policed to make sure you don't conflate what you bought with what the company owns.

And here comes the retardness that we all knew it was coming.
Vshojo was making money, the problem is they were spending and embezzling all gains in absurd show of popularity rather than reinvesting it in profit.
They wanted to look bigger than they could be and accumulated stupid debts thinking some investard was gonna buy the dip. They ignored investards don’t care about looks, thry care about how much they can exploit everything.

I would have said employing people and running a company would have been tight WITH a cut of "normal" talent revenue, even if one or two of them were breakout hits. To do so without just seems naive.
