Not necessarily. She has these sorts of epiphanies like once or twice a year where she just kinda suddenly starts feeling like she wants to try harder and do better, outdo herself etc. and it's usually accompanied with some sort of outward statement. There probably is some catalyst to it of course but I don't believe there's anything too serious behind the whole thing, maybe something just inspired her or something.
The way I see it is that machu kinda works in phases, first putting a lot of work in (often unfortunately to the point of overworking herself) and then taking it easy for a while.
