I've been wanting to get this off my chest for a while but never could find a good time to say it only because I'd be called all sorts of shit (and probably still will) but I realize there's never any "good time" since this place is just shitposts so here it goes. For a while I've been watching 3D Lives, and something always bothered me about it. I love lives, I've been to Japan to watch some live, but every time I watched Vtuber 3D lives it just felt hollow, for the lack of a better word..

I realized though, having watched another live recently, that the reason why I feel it's hollow is because everything being pre-recorded. From the singing, to the dance moves, there's no room for error. A girl can accidentally misread the lyrics on a prompt, or accidentally slur a word to make it sound off in a real live, but in Vtuber lives it's just "perfect".

There's a character I really liked in idolm@ster Cinderella Girls, because I loved her Seiyuu. Mayu Sakuma, voiced by Yui Makino. I've been to a mini live for her that wasn't im@s related and the woman could sing. But there was one im@s performance where she completely flubbed the high notes to a song (which ended up getting fixed in the bluray lmao). It was her first time performing it. The performance was still good, but there were clear mistakes. Two lives later, she comes back with the same song and fucking kills it. No fuck ups, just pure honey to the ears.

And that just felt nice. But outside of some outliers, 98% of the time vtuber lives are just prerecorded. It's too sanitized. And I can guess it's because they don't have time to practice as much, so learning like 5 choreos and then performing them when they're supposed to would be difficult , but it just feels "hollow" for the lack of a better word.

Anyway you can just ignore this post I really just finally needed to let this out after holding it in for so long. I'm not saying you should agree with me, not saying you shouldn't like it, this is just a personal preference I realized really ruins things for me.

However, some of the girls do their 3D lives live. Sora and Suisei are the big two in JP for that. Even some of the concert performances are done live. IRyS at AFO for example.
Of course, it has to be girls with absolute confidence in themselves who can convince Cover to let them do it opportunity. But that's not to say that's the only way. Koyori despite being relatively mediocre at singing just did a fully live 3D live as well including Biboo and Mori. That was a passion project that she wanted to do for herself.

You're right, but also the issue is that they simply don't have time to wait for all of their vtubers to get good enough to perform live. No fucking way that's reasonable, not for a company actively seeking profit. Live performances are amazing when the person just nails it, or alters it to be better than the original recording. It's the reason why some people prefer the live version of one specific song of their favorite singer or band, because it hits just right and makes it better that it was live with all the raw sound and emotion.

But again, from a business standpoint, it's not realistic to expect that of corporate vtubing. IIRC Sora does sing live for her solo stuff, maybe Watame? I can't remember if anyone else in Hololive does. Or maybe they do half live and half pre-recorded.
