I liked pokemon when I was 12. Even then the games were the same slop recycled again and again and from what I've seen the game are still as bad as ever. It's something that should have died long ago. I don't even know why adults continue to bother with this trash. Theres so many other games and media that are better use of your time.

What I don't understand is why Nintendo keeps using Game Freak when each new version of the Pokemon franchise is lazier than the last. They used to care about the quality of their first party games but Nintendo is now focused on using lawsuits to stifle their competition.

It makes the most sense from a cost-benefit-risk perspective. The same reason it just makes sense for companies in the US to bribe politicians than to make a meaningfully better or safer product. The problem isn't the companies, it's the laws and legal frameworks they operate within. Being mad at them for this is like being mad that your dog ate the steak you left out.

Gamfreak owns part of Pokemon. Pokemon ownership is weird, its own by the pokemon company, which itself is owned by Gamefreak and Nintendo, and they have some weird deal where gamefreak does the games and nintendo does merchandising and the pokemon company does other media, its just a mess.

So nintendo, cant just hire someone else gor the main games, its really not up to them

In general the game is pretty bad if you compare to other RPGs which were even sold at lower prices. But tastes and quality aside Nintendo is just Mafia because this year there were announcement about them copyrighting game mechanics related to Pokémon, so they can be able to sue properly smaller companies and individuals who cannot protect themselves properly for not being able to pay good attorneys like the Nintendo's ones.

The map is small and the city is boring
The tutorial is hours long and even after that the game is very on-rails
The optional content is lowest-effort copypasta slop and the rewards you receive for doing them aren't even worth the time
The new combat, which is the most-praised aspect because it's the only thing that's actually new or interesting, is clunky and quickly loses its novelty to reveal a repetitive and un-engaging system

The system is pretty fun with Nuzlocke rules, where you may only have one or two good Pokemon so you just have to make do, but the more you look for Pokemon and/or level them up, the worse the system gets.

In the past though, at least we got things like "creepy dead pokemon tower," or, "throw hands with the divine being and enslave it," that added in some spice even if you didn't have interesting gameplay; now, it's, "loan shark needs a hug and also you can beat the game with a Pidgey probably." Just, nothing there, at all...

Okay so Nintendo knows Game Freak is destroying the Pokemon franchise but they won't give it to another game developer.
