Yeah despite her questionable demeanor she must have provided her daughter financial support for the longest time and her regular visits to do chores for her makes me think that she may be an oddball but does love her daughter

Telling your daughter that you are going to die of some mysterious disease in order to emotionally blackmail and guilt trip her is heinous behavior, not questionable behavior in my opinion. I am a white american and admittedly know nothing about cantonese family dynamics, so maybe this is the most normal thing in the world in hong kong but where I come from its called emotional abuse.
