Anyhow certain members of the community have questionable motives, just aren't very interesting or likable but spend most of their time sucking up to the most influential regulars. Then use those relationships as leverage to behave in pretty nasty ways and because most of the "core" members of the community fall silent when they see it it's seen as okay and legitimizes that behavior from that person specifically. And we've seen that behavior play itself out over and over just relentlessly be condescending and holier than thou which honestly you would expect from 40k fans but it's only one way. As soon as someone else tries to rightly correct the record it's in-fighting and you see some mean girls type shit play out, I mean seriously just look at the anniversary shenanigans, maybe Lumi deserved a kick in the butt for that but come on. Then after that there was a minor thing about people recording stuff in Discord which made ppl uncomfortable. If I remember correctly it was slightly before her big Genshin sponsorship that she reflected on how she should go forward because being in a small tight knit community is one thing but when you have this many people involved it's just gonna cause problems but at the same time if she wants to do this full time she needs to pursue it seriously. It was smooth for the most part, really positive because it coincided with the final patches of TWW2, it was how she got her first real sponsorship and enrolled in the CA creator program which was a big milestone for her. That naturally led into more Warhammer and 40k, she kind of pioneered Vtubers foray into Warhammer because she gained so much visibility from the BFG/Astartes/lore stream.
I know I tend to sound bleak but the reason is because it was also my first time discovering vtubers and I found the best one a month or two after exploring the space. Really it's because I have so many fond memories of that time that I have a hard time letting it go. Part of what invited it also I think was the model update, she knew none of the old Gumis would stand for it and we sperged out until she had to draw the line (I almost dropped her after that happened). That in turn caused this feedback loop of rewarding pickme behavior in her chat, I don't know if she realized it right away but this fundamentally broke the back and forth banter which was way more brutal. I still laugh every time I think about the time she permabanned a guy for saying her model looked nice instead of commenting on the stream content, identifying it as coomer behavior.
