I even added that sentence at the end to clarify it. My point is that you, probably don't realize this because you have never obtained specialized knowledge about anything in your life, so I have to dumb it down for you.
Almost every American has an incorrect understanding of how immigration works, with many holes, misconceptions, and confusion. It would be easy for me to overthrow and poke massive holes in probably the vast majority of your beliefs around this topic. Does this mean that you are a low IQ brainlet and I'm a high IQ chad? Or does this just mean that you haven't taken any time to learn about the subject and you're doing the best you can with the limited information you have on hand (like most people?).
