Sorry if I gave the impression that that was an unscale. It's just an image I found off the web. I mostly use Gigapixel AI, and on occasion, CupScale. But I don't know of any upscalers that can really produce HiRes upscales that truly have immaculate or photorealistic quality. We need AI that can recognize what it's looking at and actually 'imagine' what that image would look like at HiRes by creatively inputting missing details in a blown up image. Programs like Gigapixel can sort of do that with faces to a limited extent but little else. For better or worse, we're still very much neck-deep in the era of AI slop. Not so different from what life was like a century ago when people were first wrestling with the advent of airplanes and moving pictures.

All of this is part of the reason I'm not interested in super HD displays. There's a real issue of diminishing returns with upscaling. You can make a vintage wallpaper look passable on a 1920p display but it would be a lot harder to make it look decent at 4K. And by the time AI can do that, we might be done with traditional desktops anyways. Who knows.

It's got some large, clear crystals in the foreground, a large pale blue or white field, and maybe a volcano or something orange like fire. Sorry if that's too vague. It looked fucking clean and powerful. I miss it.

1. They're just desktop wallpapers. If they look halfway decent on a surface level then I consider them passable as wallpapers. I have plenty of flawed stuff made by others and I can live with them. If you're anal about the technical flaws of AI generation then these are not for you. You're just gonna have to wait a while for them to be updated (or request someone on the /wg/ modification threads to do it).

2. AI slop is not huge deal since AI is at least competent enough to do 99% of the hard work involved with image generation. There is obviously room for improvement with these, I acknowledged as much in my previous post. I don't like the idea of waiting months or years to perfect something like a wallpaper before releasing it (again, they're just wallpapers). I welcome people to post flawed material. It's good to just get stuff out there. Seeing a vintage wallpaper expanded to 16/9 ratio might prompt someone to update it. I have updated other people's edits too. Not a big deal. I'm not the least bit bothered by AI slop since I know I can always fix it. And if the mood to update something finally strikes me I do just that. I recently updated an AI-expanded liminal space pape I did months back. Feels good.

3. Anon requested that I post them so I did. They were made on the spot. So flaws are to be expected.

Lost my fav y2k wallpaper after da PC died, posted once in one of these threads. It was something like blue beams going upwards on a black bg. May some kind soul repost it one day.
The archive is not helping either, insanely slow and can't do a simple search. Fuck my life.

What program can I use to make my own Y2K 3d renders?

There's bryce 3d, the results of that are more 90's than y2k though

Honestly I do wish we had a modern program to make Bryce 3D like Renders. It's kind of weird nobody has made a 3D Program like it. We have so much advancements in Hardware and Software, even with AI nowadays it feels like we are leaving a lot on the table. Hopefully someone does it.

It needs someone with the money, time, and (access to the) coding skills, to buy the rights to the program from Daz3D (which would make it the fifth time the program changed owners in about 31 years), and then they could finally remake Bryce, as version 8, into the 64-bit app all Bryce enthusiasts have been desperately asking for since forever; which is a project Daz3D themselves have apparently been unwilling to take on since their last update to version 7 back in 2010, presumably because they feel a 64-bit rewrite project...

A: would take too long and cost too much money

B: wouldn't sell enough copies to recoup all the costs and turn a profit

And they're probably not wrong on both counts, but even so, in the crowded modern day market of 3D graphics software, there's nothing quite like Bryce.

To be fair, I'm sure any of the modern 3D graphics apps can produce renders that look like a Bryce render if an artist took a few moments to recreate the appropriate look and feel in their work using their program of choice, and that's great and all, but for existing Bryce users in particular, most/all of these modern apps simply don't have the kind of comparatively easy to grasp user interface and readily accessible built-in libraries (for textures, skies, trees, objects, etc.) that Bryce has always had since version 1 and which was slowly expanded upon in successive versions over the years.

And by rewriting Bryce to be a 64-bit application it would not only allow even more expansion of such features, but it would finally allow the program to use more than approx. 3.5Gb of memory, which would unlock so much potential for creating larger and much more complex renders but in the familiar Bryce 'style'.

But will such a massive rewrite project ever happen?

It's been almost 15 years now since the last update to version 7.1 was released, making it far and away the longest gap between any kind of an update the program has ever experienced, so at this point the signs are honestly not looking so good for there ever being a version 8, much less a version 8 in 64-bit form.

But never say never, after all, stranger things have been known to randomly happen on the internet.

For anyone interested in giving Bryce 7.1 Pro a go, check out the following link from archive.org:

https://archive.org/details/install-bryce-7.1.0.109-win-32

In 2012 DAZ3D (current owners of Bryce) briefly put the full version of Bryce 7.1 Pro on sale on their website for free in the form of the "Personal Learning Edition".

It's basically the full version of Bryce 7.1 Pro just without commercial licensing terms; included is a 1200+ page manual/guide and additional bonus content.

Make sure to read through the installation guide, particularly Step 7 - as this will help get the most from the software on modern systems.

And, obviously, make sure to verify any download with your antivirus/internet security software before installation.

Alternatively, at the time of writing this, Daz3D have put the full commercial version of Bryce 7.1 Pro on sale on their website (daz3d.com) at $4.39 (an 80% discount).

This video and entire album is very reminiscent of Y2K in many ways. Breakbeat, Futuristic Sci-Fi, a sense of wonder and chill. We really need to make Art and Design this beautiful again.

Honestly I would say we need an Open Source version of Bryce 3D or Bryce 3D should go Open Source so everyone can maintain the code or add onto it and revolutionize it even further. I do worry because there has not been a rewrite like one of you mentioned, but also it's expensive as well. Crowdsourcing and Open Source would be the next best path to go into.

Very, you can pick it up in an afternoon and make stuff. I made this basic music video for a song I wrote in an afternoon, it's not great but you get the idea.

The following video was made with an early-ish version of Bryce (likely either a later update of v2 or a pre-production/early production version of v3) where animation controls had finally been added to the program.

Planetary Traveler : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L9OXAhAlm4

Prior to this video, which was released back in the day on DVD, Bryce was essentially a still image creation tool only.

A sequel to this video was released some time later (created with Bryce v4 I believe), that video was called "Infinity's Child".

God I miss when everything looked like this, sometime ago I'd drink my soul off and pretend that I was still in y2k, watching anime and films and playing games from that era, listening to animecore trance videos on yt and faking happiness, it really worked for a while, but it doesn't work anymore.
